John G. Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Just thought I'd post to give an example of a less than successfull bidding strategy. My own fault, and I hope others will learn from my weakness! This was my first time bidding for a hotel room hrough Priceline. I educated myself about the recommended strategies and proceeded to bid for a 4* hotel room for a trip to NYC (April 8, four nights). My first bidding session was yesterday (Sat., 27Mar10): MTW, bid $85, not accepted; added MTE, bid $105, not accepted; added Theatre District, bid $125, not accepted; added Chelsea/Village (no 4* hotels), bid $135. Not accepted. I quit for the day. This morning (Sunday, 28Mar10) I continued, but I was starting to feel rushed to finalize my travel plans and stupidly started my first bid too high: MTW, bid $165. The bid was immediately accepted for the Sheraton NY Hotel and Towers. I was delighted until I decided to check the hotel's web site and found they were running a special for $189. Bottom line: I ended up saving about $20 a night, not worth it IMO for an opaque hotel room acquisition.I certainly should have started my second bidding session lower, but I've learned my lesson!John
