highwood Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Hello everybody,Firstly, what a wonderful forum! Anything that helps travellers save money is certainly a good thing, and this seems to be a real gem for money-savers. Now onto my situation, which I will try to explain as clearly as possible, but please bear with me as I'm new to priceline and this site....My girlfriend and I are travelling to New York to celebrate our anniversary. We arrive on the 27th April and are there for 11 nights (flying back on 8th May). We are on a very limited budget, having already forked out for flights from the UK, but are not expecting anything special. We have found a hostel that seems ok (ish!) but are wondering if Priceline might be able to sort us out with something a little nicer for a similar amount of money. The hostel is around $80 per night so that would be my ideal bid amount, although I could stretch to an absolute maximum of $95 if I were jumping up to an extra star/cracking location. I realise that my budget is pretty miniscule, even for Priceline, but I would be happy with any jump up from a hostel. Cleanliness and safety are my only musts, and I would much prefer not to be too far out, although for really serious reductions I would consider it. Since it is a long stay, split-bidding seems a good idea. I am fine with this if it saves money, although preferably not more than say three or four times, and if at all possible, within the same area! So, to clarify:$80 for ANYTHING better than a hostel (I am interested to hear people's thoughts/experiences for 1 star hotels)$95 for 2.5 stars/somewhere very centrally located. My ideal locations would be Midtown but UES and UWS would be okay too.A big thank you in advance to any respondents!
thereuare Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! For midtown, are MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, Chelsea and MSG all acceptable? Did you want to include UES and UWS in your bidding fro the onset? I'll also point that each of these zones extends somewhat north and there are pockets of the zone i wouldn't recommend staying in from a safety perspective... others may think otherwise, but i'd sooner stay Downtown-Financial than in the northern part of the UWS and UES zones, from both a safety and convenience perspective.Which airport are you flying in to?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. highwood Posted March 28, 2010 Author Report Posted March 28, 2010 Hi, Many thanks for quick the response. I am flying in to JFK, and out of Newark Intl. All the areas you mentioned would be fine as far as I am concerned, my only consideration would be if you think any of the areas would be a security concern.
highwood Posted March 28, 2010 Author Report Posted March 28, 2010 Sorry, missed a bit. I would prefer not to include UES and UWS if I can avoid it, but I realise that my expectations may be unrealistic.
