unipanther08 Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 This is my first time with PRICELINE bidding. I have a party of four people and we have a room "booked" at the Couryard Isla Verde in San Juan on 1/29-1/30 that we can cancel at any time. The problem is that it will end up being $283.75 for the night. I wanted to try bidding on PRICELINE for two rooms at a resort. I was rejected for my first bid of $80 for two rooms. I don't know which zone doesn't have resort hotels to re-bid before the 24 hour wait period. Can anyone help? Also, could you please suggest another re-bid amount? I definitely don't want to end up going over the $283.75 for two rooms with fees. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
unipanther08 Posted March 27, 2010 Author Report Posted March 27, 2010 I did a re-bid for $88 by adding a 4 star hotel and got rejected again.
thereuare Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can learn about re-bidding and how to determine your re-bid zones here: Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedWhen bidding for a "resort" class hotel in San Juan you have SIX re-bid zones. Please read the thread above and see if you can use the methods there to determine your re-bid zones... you can then confirm them with the board or if you're confused ask questions and we'll break it down further for you. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. unipanther08 Posted April 20, 2010 Author Report Posted April 20, 2010 I used the PRICELINE link and got rejected for my first bid of $90 for a resort. I did a re-bid for $97 by adding 4-star deluxe and was rejected again.
thereuare Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Let's back up a moment...Lowering your star rating and increasing your bid is not what is meant by a re-bid, and doing this (increasing your bid and lowering your star rating) is not recommended, as per this thread: If You Lower Your Star Rating Then Lower Your PriceDid you read the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread? Do you understand re-bidding and that you have SIX re-bid zones when bidding resort? Do you want to continue bidding for a Resort class hotel after your first bid is rejected OR is there a reason you're lowering your star quality after your first failed bid? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. unipanther08 Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 I lowered the rating because I have noticed other people on the board are getting resort hotels at a higher rate than I wanted to spend. If I bid near the $115 range (which would be a GREAT price for one room) then for the two rooms (because I have four people) with taxes and resort fee would end up being more than the refundable reservation I currently have for a 3.5 star hotel. I guess I am unsure whether my bids are just way too low to be bidding on a resort.
thereuare Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 I lowered the rating because I have noticed other people on the board are getting resort hotels at a higher rate than I wanted to spend.Even in this instance, you should lower your bid amount when you lower your star rating... not increase your bid.It may be too early for any deeply discounted rooms for this stay, but what is your maximum bid at the Resort level and what is your maximum bid at the 4* level? Are you 4adults or 2adults/2children?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. unipanther08 Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 There will be 4 adults. I know Priceline can only guarantee 2 people so that is why I am doing two rooms. I would love to be able to do one room for the 4 of us but Hotwire's quotes have been more than my current reservation. For two rooms at a resort, the maximum bid I would try would be $110 since the resort fees and taxes would probably send me over the $280+ range. For a 4-star deluxe, the maximum I would try would be $95.Thank you for your assistance.
thereuare Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 At both the Resort and 4* levels you have SIX re-bid zones.
