First time poster to this board so here it goes:

I was trying to book a hotel in the following areas for 5/19 through 5/24 at 3*:

Central Park South, Chelsea Area, Downtown - SoHo - Financial District, Empire State Building Area, Madison Square Garden - Convention Area, Midtown East, Midtown West, Times Square - Theatre District, Upper East Side, or Upper West Side.

Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), my bid of $90 was not accepted.

Since I'm flexible with where I stay, should I try to split the dates and possibly bid lower for the weekdays? Has anybody tried this approach?

Is there any reason I should be concerned with the type of hotel that I will get going as low as 3*?

The main purpose for the trip is for the Pearl Jam concert at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, but I'm also trying to hit up Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, and a trip down to Battery park during my stay so location isn't overly important since all those attractions are all over the city.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Also, since this seems to be the first question asked, my maximium I would want to spend is $150 but what would be the best re-bidding technique to get away with as little as possible?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

You can see the discussion here regarding SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID.

Did you want to try splitting the bid first OR trying for your complete stay up to $150?

I think you'll be 'fine' at the 3* level, although i might think twice about the UES and UWS zones as some of the possible 3* hotels may get a bit far north, which is an area you might not want to stay and/or be some inconvenient relative to the zones south of Central Park.

My primary interest is trying to keep cost low so I think if splitting the stay would accomplish that, then that's what I want to do (even if it isn't in the same hotel). Since my stay is from Wednesday night through Monday morning, is my best option to split it Wednesday through Friday morning and Friday night through Monday morning?

Also, since I've never been to NYC, are UES and UWS are bad zones for 3* because of how inconvienent they are distance wise from attractions in the city or is it an unsafe area?

Thanks for the help.

Most of UWS and UES are safe, but there are pockets within each i probably would prefer not to stay in for safety reasons. Safety issues aside, neither if terribly convenient for the average visitor, imo.

Let us know which zone(s) you would like to include and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Also, would not having to switch hotels be worth nothing per nite, $10/nite, $20/nite, etc?

I think any of the following would be fine areas to stay in since the attractions I want to see are all over the city anyways:

Central Park South

Chelsea Area

Downtown - SoHo - Financial District

Empire State Building Area

Madison Square Garden - Convention Area

Midtown East, Midtown West

Times Square - Theatre District

I think the lowest I would not be willing to switch for is $20 a night (as it would save me about $60 total), anything less, it wouldn't be worth the effort of moving.

Thanks for the help.

Your stay is from 5/19-5/24, correct... so savings $20/nite would be $100 total savings.

Is $20 still the 'right' number to save per nite to make SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID worthwhile?

Please confirm.

Yeah I was thinking saving $20 a night for the first three nights over the last 2 nights. So $60 total savings would be fine by me.

I don't know if this is the right place to post or not...and if not, please delete my post.

The Roosevelt Hotel (NYC) has a facebook special TODAY only at $149/night. Rate code is FACEB. I was able to book 2 rooms from Sep 3 - 6, 2010, one room at 149/night rate and the other room at $159/night.

I tried your dates - May 20 - 24 and the $149/night is available. The rate is not available if you try May 19 -24, 2010.

"Book our special $149 rate and enjoy Spring in NYC. http://bit.ly/aslX7j (Based on Availability)"

On dates that *are* available, the prices are:

Cozy Queen - Comfortable: $149/night

Superior King - Inviting: $159/night

Deluxe King - Luxurious: $169/night

Rooms with two double beds are also available at slightly higher prices.

Please hurry because the special can be pulled at any time.

Just as an FYI,

I attempted to split the nights, from Wednesday night to checking out Friday and then Friday night to Monday morning.

These were the areas selected for both searches:

Central Park South

Chelsea Area Details

Downtown - SoHo - Financial District

Empire State Building Area

Madison Square Garden - Convention Area

Midtown East

Midtown West

Times Square - Theatre District

Tried $95 for the weeknights - not accepted.

Tried $120 for the weekend nights - not accepted.

I'm assuming you split the bid 5/19-5/21 and 5/21-5/24

If so this is how i would bid from here...

Seelct 5/19-5/21...

Select 3* CPS, Chelsea, DT, ESB,

Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, MTE, MTW, TS

Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, Chelsea, DT, ESB,

Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* CPS, MTE, MTW, TS

Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* CPS, MTE, DT, ESB,

Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, Chelsea, MTW, TS

Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* CPS, Chelsea, MTW, ESB,

Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, MTE, DT, TS

Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* CPS, Chelsea, DT, TS,

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, MTE, MTW, ESB

Bid $120

This will bring the bidding for both of your partial stays up to $120.

If the above is rejected, i do think you have a chance at a complete stay at $140 or under, so i would then change the dates to 5/219-5/24 and bid as follows:

Select 3* CPS, Chelsea, DT, ESB,

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, MTE, MTW, TS

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, Chelsea, DT, ESB,

Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* CPS, MTE, MTW, TS

Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* CPS, MTE, DT, ESB,

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, Chelsea, MTW, TS

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* CPS, Chelsea, MTW, ESB,

Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, MTE, DT, TS

Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* CPS, Chelsea, DT, TS,

Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 3* MSG, MTE, MTW, ESB

Bid $140

Well, I won. Not as low of a price as I had hoped but pretty good none the less.

Like others on the calendar of wins, got "Millennium Un Plaza Hotel New York" at $140 a night for all nights, 5/19 through 5/24.

Thanks for your help.

Now all I have to do is get the Yankees and Mets tickets and I'll be all set.
