hayden2 Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Hello, I have spent hours attemping to determine what is the best option for 3 school board members ages 26 - 75 for a hotel while attending a school board conference at the McCormick Center from April 9 - 12.I have looked at the 4.5* at 109.00 Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville area Hotel - but do not know how hard it is to get over to the convention center. Due to the school budget we would like to stay at 110.00 or less. Does anyone have any suggestions?Thank you kindly
hayden2 Posted March 24, 2010 Author Report Posted March 24, 2010 Sorry - we will need three individual rooms....
AaronJB Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The Loop area is closer to McCormick, but can be very quiet at night, as many restaurants and shops do close after offices let out.The Michigan Ave/Mag Mile area would be a bit further from McCormick, but would have more nightlife and more restaurant options.I'm seeing three HOTWIRE options at or under $110.4.5* Mag Mile/Streeterville - fitness, business, restaurant, internet. $109. This is possibly the Intercontinental, James or Conrad - all three are very nice hotels in a great area right near both Michigan Ave. and the river. Great hotel possibilities, great price, great area.4* Loop - Boutique, Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Internet. $99. This is likely the Allegro, a Kimpton boutique property. Very nice hotel, but the location in the Loop is not very good from a tourist perspective, and this area will be very quiet at night. Very nice hotel, but not terribly convenient.3.5* Loop - Fitness, Restaurant, Internet. $79. This is likely the Club Quarters Loop. This is in the Loop and is a nice but rather basic property. The location is mildly better than the Allegro, but this is still going to be a very quiet area at night. One Hotels.com option (this is available only if there is 1 person per room)Club Quarters Wacker at Michigan - $94. Use coupon code ACDE4ESTR for an additional 10% off the final total. This would be the other Club Quarters property, although this one is much better located right by Michigan Ave. at the river. Not super upscale, but nice price and superb location, plus the 10% off coupon code does certainly help - if all three rooms were booked together, it takes off $84 and change from the total. Is the convention providing transport to McCormick Place? Please use the site's HOTWIRE, PRICELINE or Hotels.com links to start your purchases and searches.
hayden2 Posted March 24, 2010 Author Report Posted March 24, 2010 Thank you so much for your help. Yes they are providing a shuttle to the convention to several hotels - I will now cross reference those hotels with these listed and hope that there is a match :)
AaronJB Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Also, it really wouldn't be too a big issue if you did not stay at the hotel where transportation is going to stop, because it really wouldn't be very far of a walk from at least one of the hotels above. I'm guessing transit will stop at the Palmer, Hyatt, Intercontinental and a few others. If you were to take a cab from the Michigan Ave. area to McCormick Place it would be about $10 (+/-, depending). Additional people in the cab would add to the cost a little bit.
AaronJB Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 I looked up the conference website and it says:"Shuttle Service: NSBA's complimentary all-day shuttle will run between the Conference hotels and the McCormick Place-West. Stops will be at the hotel or a location near the hotel. Your Conference badge is the ticket to ride for you, your spouse/guest, and your children. Shuttle service will be provided for those staying at hotels booked through the NSBA Housing Bureau. Transportation will not be guaranteed for those who make reservations directly with hotels."The conference hotels would include the Hyatt (so if you stayed at the Club Quarters Wacker/Michigan, you would walk 1 block East to the Hyatt Regency on Wacker), the Intercontinental (so if the 4.5* Mag Mile was the Intercontinental, Conrad or James, you could easily walk to or be at the Intercontinental) and if you stayed at the CQ Loop, you would walk to the Palmer. The Allegro, which is a possible HOTWIRE listing for these dates, would be a bit further from a conference hotel stop, but you would also walk to the Palmer in that case.In my humble opinion, the Club Quarters Wacker/Michigan or the 4.5* Mag Mile/Streeterville would seem like particularly good options.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Hotels.com links.
AaronJB Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 Additionally, given that shuttle service is provided from conference hotels, you could also choose the 4* NMA-Water Tower-Gold Coast listing that is showing on HOTWIRE for these dates for $103, as well. That could possibly be the Allerton, Drake, Knickerbocker or Westin Michigan Ave, and that listing is recommended by 90% of HOTWIRE customers. In all four of those cases, those are either conference hotels or right near one.Overall, a lot of good options.
hayden2 Posted March 24, 2010 Author Report Posted March 24, 2010 Wow - you are outstaning! I will try that right now.

hayden2 Posted March 25, 2010 Author Report Posted March 25, 2010 Again, thank you. I did some further research with the information on this site and was able to bid Per Night: $73.00 at the 4* Hyatt Regency McCormick Center (where the convention is held) So my total for the three rooms for three nights is $773.01!Subtotal: $657.00 Taxes & Fees: $116.01 Total Charges*: $773.01

AaronJB Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 Very nice deal - this certainly couldn't be closer to the convention. My only note would be that there really is not much right around the hotel, and some of the areas to the West/SW of the hotel may be so-so. I believe this hotel offers a shuttle into the Loop or Michigan Ave. area, although I believe it doesn't do pick-ups; if you wanted to go downtown, you could use the shuttle there and then take a cab back.
