Hi,

I need advice on bidding: my wife and I will be spending Wed, March 24, one night in NYC. Not really important what section- I picked out MTE, MTW, ESB, and SoHo. We are really in transit visiting schools with our daughter. The room would be just for two of us.

We would like a four star- not sure how to proceed with the bidding-

Any help appreciated-

Bob V :)

Have you already bid the zone(s) above? If so, how high did you get?

Is there a reason you're not including the TS or ESB zone(s) in your bidding, as these usually prove to be convenient for the typical visitor.

Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

I'm sorry if I've wasted peoples time, but I'm new to this. I haven't bid on anything yet but need to get this done today- and don't know where to start.

Our plans have also changed: we need a 3-4 star room for 2 people for one night in SOHO or Brooklyn for the night of March 24th. I looked on the "Calendar of Wins" but can't find any "wins" for Soho or Brooklyn and don't know where else to find these "wins". Also, since I'm down to only two areas, I need the correct strategy from the start- since i will be blocked from bidding again within 24 hours.

Can someone help me find a bid to start that would have some chance of success (I understand there are no guarantees with this process).

Thanks for your advice and patience with a new bidder.

Hello, I just bid $130 for a 31/2 star in Brooklyn and didn't get it- so I can't really bid again in Brooklyn-

Soho is a possibility- if someone can give me some advice on a price 3-4 star, that would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Bob

To confirm before bidding...

Soho is part of the Downtown-Financial District zone, so if you bid on PRICELINE you can receive a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone, not just the Soho part of the zone... is this acceptable to you?

Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Since you bid for a 3.5* in Brooklyn but are willing to accept a 3* in Soho-Downtown-Financial, is a 3* in Broklyn not acceptable? Did yo use any re-bid zones (Priceline Re-Bidding Explained) when bidding for Brooklyn?

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.

Thanks for the help- but I had to get a room before 9 PM 23 March, when you replied- and I found, on hotwire, an add for a 4* in Soho for $135. It turned out to be the Millenium LES on Allen street. It was terrific-- and, I felt, at a terrific price. I plan to continue to use this forum- and thanks for the help.

Congratulations on your success! :)

Awesome deal, and glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Can you confirm that this was the Thompson LES and not the Millennium Hilton (I'm guessing it's the Thompson property, which is on Allen.) Additionally, can you confirm the amenity icons that were showing with this HOTWIRE listing? Thank you.)

Thank you for sharing your win with the board and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Enjoy your stay.

Yes, I can confirm that it was the Thompson Lower East Side (not the Millenium), located on 190 Allen Street. It is a very modern hotel is as described on the HOTWIRE add. I didn't check out all the ammeneties (not enough time) but it had a great Chinese (shusi Plus other) restaurant called the SHANG and we did eat there and it was terrific and reasonably priced- has indoor and outdoor seating. The hotel website is quite accureate-- the lounge and SHANG are on the second floor and look exactly as on the hotel website. We got a queen bed, and when I got the room for $135 the hotel web site had a best price of $229. Subway is literally right acrosss the street. Instead of paying $55/nite for the hotel valet parking- I located (online) a parking garage just three (short)blocks away on Essex Street for 35 bucks. The room was terriffic with great new bathroom etc. (the whole hotel is only a couple years old.) Does have wi-fi for a price- but I didnt use it, and a nice looking bar on one of the upper floors (didn't use that either though). Didn't see "Fitness, Business, Pool, or Tennis" but I bet it's all there since everything else was accurate. VERY nice staff.

Hope this helps,

Bob
