omchon Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Hi,After reading the messages in this great forum on the last days, I'm planning to use Priceline for the first time.My wife and I are planning to stay in NYC May 6 to May 16th 2010. We wish to stay in the MTW or TSQ or CPS zones in a 4* level hotel (a 3.5* level would also be OK but we are somewhat worried that not all 3.5* level hotels will be nice enough). We have limited ourselves to no more than 150 $ per night. Since we have a 10 night stay - What would be a reasonable bid? At what rate should we start bidding?Thank you
thereuare Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!I'm assuming that $150 is your maximum bid amount (and not 'all-in' price), but also suspect that this may not be enough for a 4* hotel in one of these zones... is there a reason you're not including MTE in your bidding? If you want to give it a try for just the zones above...At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTW, CPS and TS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. omchon Posted March 22, 2010 Author Report Posted March 22, 2010 Thank you for your help. could you please advise as to a reasonable bid for a 3.5* level hotel at the mentioned zones, on my desired dates? Please keep in mind that this is a 10 night stay. Thanks
thereuare Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Did you try the 4* bidding above and were turned down or have you decided to try for a 3.5* property first? At the 3.5* level, are you only interested in these same zones, as there are some pretty good 3.5* hotels in the other nearby zones which often have good rates thru PRICELINE. Is $150 still your maximum bid at the 3.5* level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. omchon Posted March 23, 2010 Author Report Posted March 23, 2010 Hi,still trying to bid for 4*. Yesterday I tried to bid 110$ for MTW and TS and was rejected. I'm thinking of raising my bid to 115 $ today but I might need to lower the hotels level if I reach 145-150$ with no luck.
omchon Posted March 24, 2010 Author Report Posted March 24, 2010 I placed another bid now at 121$ for MTW + TS + MTE + CPS. No luck.Do you think I need to split my bidding? (it's a 10 night stay).Tnx for all your advise.

omchon Posted March 25, 2010 Author Report Posted March 25, 2010 Please read and reply to your messages.Hi, I would really appreciate your advise on this.Tnx
omchon Posted March 25, 2010 Author Report Posted March 25, 2010 Hi, I just placed a bid for 125$ for a 4* hotel in: MTW + TS. I got rejected but PL informed me that I might want to increase my bid by 22$. I declined the counter offer.Added MTE and offerd 131$ and was rejected again. On the same dates, HOTWIRE offers a Midtown central 4* level for 169$. Hotel ameneties include: Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center & High-speed Internet Access. The hotel is recommended in 70% of the reviews.Considering this, What do you think I should bet next?!Also, do you have any idea as to the ID of the hotel offered by HOTWIRE?Thank you.
thereuare Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 It seems like price is your primary objective and you should be able to receive something via PRICELINE for less than $147/nite, which is under your $150 budget. Best guess for the HOTWIRE properties is that the MTW hotel is the Sheraton New York and the 3.5* property is the Millenium UN. However, both of these HOTWIRE properties above are over your budget, so not sure if/why these are considerations.Seems to me that your best course of action would be to gradually increase your PRICELINE bids towards the $147 mark to see how much less you can get it for than that... or am i missing something? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. omchon Posted March 28, 2010 Author Report Posted March 28, 2010 Tried 150$ last night and was not accepted. So frustrating. How is this possible?
omchon Posted March 28, 2010 Author Report Posted March 28, 2010 4* MT central hotel - 179$, Dates: 6 May 2010 - 16 May 2010Hotel amenesties include:Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access ----------------------------------Recommended in 85% of reviews. Thank you!
thereuare Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Because inventory, and prices, change frequently... you're $147 counter-offer was 3 days ago, and that offer may have been in limited supply and another PRICELINE customer purchase it OR the hotel may have pulled the offer if they reevaluated their occupancy for these dates. If you didn't, please remember to use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding and purchases.PS- please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
