sheilatraveller Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I have bid up to $100 for three 4* rooms in downtown Pike Place for 8/14/2010 (a Saturday night) and not had any luck. Do you think that it is just too early to bid, or are prices that much higher in August? I obviously have plenty of time and there are 10 free rebid zones for a 4* in Seattle. There have been many wins for 4* for less than $100, so I am hoping to be able to able to get it for $100 or less.Of course, I have bid using the PRICELINE link here! Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 It's still early, but it wouldn't surprise me if you have to bid higher than $100 for this nite... rates in the summer in Seattle are generally more expensive than in the winter/early spring months for which you're comparing prices of the sub-$100 bids. As well, there are three cruise ships in port 8/14 and three in port 8/15. I'm assuming they're all finishing/beginning cruises and not just using Seattle as a stop mid-itinerary. If this is correct, that is a lot of potential guests disembarking on 8/14 who will potentially extend their vacation a bit by staying in town the nite of 8/14, as well as other cruisers who will be arriving 8/14, the nite of their ship's depature on 8/15.I wouldn't panic and chase this one too much at this point, but i would at least start to be prepared that this may cost you $110-$135 for a 4* hotel. How high you bid at the moment depends upon your comfort level of waiting and not having your plans set a few months before arrival. Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.Any questions let us know, and please keep us updated on your progress. sheilatraveller Posted March 20, 2010 Author Report Posted March 20, 2010 Thanks for the response. After reading the reviews of the 3 and 3 1/2 * hotels in this area (and bidding up to $121 for a 4*) I think I may decide to try for a 3 or 3.5 * to save a bit of money. Any idea on how much I should consider bidding for those?3.5 * still allows 8 free rebids, but 3 * only has 1 free rebid zone, but I have plenty of time, so I guess it should not be a problem.
sheilatraveller Posted March 21, 2010 Author Report Posted March 21, 2010 Since it looked like it might be difficult to get a 4* for a good rate on that date, I decided to use HOTWIRE and book the Warwick for $109 per night. I was able to use the hotel list here to figure out that it was the Warwick. Since that looks like a decent hotel in a good location, I decided that I would rather go with that than try for a 3* on PRICELINE and risk getting one that I did not like. I used the HOTWIRE link on the board and I will post it on the Hotwire board as well so that other people looking for a Hotwire room on that date can see it. Thanks for all of your help!
sheilatraveller Posted March 21, 2010 Author Report Posted March 21, 2010 I was originally trying PRICELINE for a 4*, but I went up to $120 and was not accepted. I saw the Warwick and was able to match it to the description on here - it did list the pool. When I was only looking for 1 room it came up as $106 and it included an icon for bed selection, but when I changed it to search for 3 rooms the price was $109 and it no longer had the bed selection icon.Amenities: Boutique, Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business, High-Speed internetHotel rate per night - HOTWIRE hot Rate:$109.00Nights:1Rooms:3Subtotal:$327.00Tax recovery charges and fees:$53.82Total price:$380.82I used the HOTWIRE link on the board.
