edana Posted March 19, 2010 Report Posted March 19, 2010 I just bid $150 for 4/2/10 Santa Monica 4* & got rejected. I then bid $86 for 3.5 *and got accepted by Doubletree Guest Suites, Santa Monica (which I thoughtwas only 3* and accepted bids of $65). Did Doubletree's rating somehow just improve or did I got crossed up?

edana Posted March 23, 2010 Author Report Posted March 23, 2010 Thank you for your cordial response and invaluable, informative website. However my emoticon and point were to indicate that since this hotel was historically accepting lower bids (i.e. at $65) as a 3* I felt I overpaid a bit when they suddenly "upgraded" (and also just ended self parking and raised their exclusive valet charge to $28), and took my higher ($86) bid with which I intended to try for one of the more traditional 3.5* properties along or closer to the ocean. Ahhh, the uncertainties of bidding....

Although not our most screaming deal via Priceline, it was well worth what we paid. A lingering curiosity, could someone please explain to me, is there any reason for the difference or sense to be made of AAA rating 3*, Priceline 3.5* and Hotwire 4* for the same property?
