Bidding history:

3* NMA $40-Rejected

3* NMA+Lincoln Park $45-Rejected

3* NMA+Hyde Park $50-Rejected

3* NMA+Franklin Park $53-Accepted

Rate on hotel's website is $169/night. Just to note, I tried to get a room with two beds, but it costs an extra $20 a night. I did manage to get a King bed for no extra charge though. Overall, I'm very happy with the hotel.

This is a fantastic deal for this Indigo property! Edwardo's Pizza is a nice choice a couple of doors down.

Thanks for the tip about Edwardo's! I failed to mention that I had a $10/night coupon in my account that I used, so I actually only paid $43/night. I agree that this is an excellent deal.

This property is in the Gold Coast area, which is a small, upscale neighborhood a few minutes walk from the top/North end of the Michigan Ave. area. There's a couple of grocery stores - including Jewel a couple of blocks West - nearby, as well as a number of bars/restaurants (this area is known for nightlife - if you're out later in the evening, there's likely going to be a fair amount of people out and about.) The hotel is on a residential side street, and if you walk a good 10 minutes North, you're at the beginning of the Lincoln Park area. Really nice hotel, as well - it's a renovation of what was a pre-existing property, and it's a very cute little hotel.

The Clark/Division subway station is a block South, then a block West on Division.

Thanks again! I've been "exploring" the area with Google Maps Street View and it does look nice. Since you seem to know the area fairly well, how long of a walk do you think it would be to the Lincoln Park Zoo from the hotel? Also, I'll be coming in on Amtrak at Union Station. What would you suggest the best way is to get to the hotel with a couple of bags on public transportation? I was thinking about walking east (.6 mile) on either Adams St. or Jackson Blvd. until I hit the Jackson Red Line Station and take it to Clark/Division.

Lincoln Park Zoo's a really easy walk from the Indigo (and a pretty walk, as well) - you could walk out of the hotel on Dearborn and head due North on Dearborn. You will get to North Avenue and Dearborn will end there. Walk across North Avenue and into the park and there will be a trail there that will wind around behind the Chicago Historical Society and then head under and overpass. From there, it's only a couple of more minutes walk North to Farm in the Zoo, which is the South end of the Zoo. Additionally, also highly recommended is the Lincoln Park Conservatory, which has some great plant/flower shows. That's free and directly next to the North gate of the Zoo.

Only a bit SW of the Zoo (corner of North and Wells, then a few blocks North and South on Wells from that point) is the Old Town neighborhood, which has Zanies Comedy Club, as well as the famed Second City theatre. I also highly recommend The Spice House, which is a beautiful spice/herb store in Old Town - fantastic, neighborhood-themed blends and a wide variety of other herbs/spices. Fresh and the prices are really reasonable, too.

If it's a reasonably nice day out, you could walk to the Jackson Red Line station and then take the subway to the Clark/Division stop, then the hotel is a couple of short blocks away. I'd guess it would be a $7-8 ($9 worst case scenario - really shouldn't be worse than that) cab ride from Union Station. You could also walk a few blocks East to LaSalle and take the 156 LaSalle Bus North to LaSalle & Division or walk to Clark and then take the 22 Clark St. bus North to Clark/Division.

Also, there's an early Frank Lloyd Wright work a few blocks from the hotel - the Charnley-Persky House (http://www.sah.org/index.php?src=gendocs&a...nleyPerskyHouse)

The Original Pancake House is a small restaurant a few blocks away on 22 E. Bellevue - very popular for breakfast, and gets crowded early. Tempo on 6 E Chestnut is another popular breakfast place, but I think they don't take credit cards. I'm also a fan of Goddess Grocer on 25 E. Delaware, which is a very pretty little grocery and has terrific sandwiches/soups/salads.

I appreciate your suggestions! I might have to swing by the Original Pancake House for breakfast. I'll also have to visit the Charnley-Persky House. I would have definitely overlooked it without your advice.
