That's probably because it is Valentine's day weekend and my upper limit was $50. So, I decided to move out to the MD suburbs because I have a car, so no transportation problems. Also, Bethesda is chock full of good restaurants and it is still convenient to downtown DC. I was hoping for the 2.5* Marriot Residence Inn Bethesda, because of the free weekend parking and breakfast is included...but PL upgraded my bid to a 3* and I got the Marriot Suites Bethesda instead. I wish PL wouldn't do the upgrade thingy...it kind of throws a wrench into one's bidding strategy...but in this case, I certainly can't complain...it's still a great hotel at a fantastic price! My first bid was $45...they gave me a $13 counteroffer. I started a new bid, adding Laurel as a free rebid and offered $48...bingo! The best internet price for this date is $129 plus tax ($144.48 total)...I got it for $61.24 total, a savings of 57.6% !!! Went through savingsbarn.com of course.
