Ron J. Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 Just tried priceline for last minute trip - thinking of taking the train from DC to New York (never have done that!). For some reason, price-line only allowed me to bid twice as I added areas. Triped CPS and MTW - but really open to anything that is relatively close to Penn Station. I reached $140 when I was not allowed to bid again. Will try it later tonight one more time, but looking for ideas/approach. I can go up to $150-$160 -- any chance?
thereuare Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 Rates are high for the nites above and i'm doubtful you'll be succesful finding a 4* hotel for $150 and under. If you want to give it a try, at the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedSelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB (leave out any zones you're not comfortable with, but all of these usually work out fine for the average visitor)...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.PS- not sure what your back-up plan is, but you could probably get a 4* hotel in Jersey City and commute into the city via PATH train for ~$80-$110/nite Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Ron J. Posted March 18, 2010 Author Report Posted March 18, 2010 Thanks. Just gave it a shot and actually started at a higher price. Got up to $170 with mte, mtw, cps, ts and esb (but not downdown SOHO) - no luck! Must be a busy day for them.. Going to research a 3.5* to see if that is a possibility. Not familiar with what the path train is from jersey city - can take a look.Rates are high for the nites above and i'm doubtful you'll be succesful finding a 4* hotel for $150 and under. If you want to give it a try, at the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. Ron J. Posted March 18, 2010 Author Report Posted March 18, 2010 One last question: The downtown/Soho area for 4* - is that a decent area to add and will be able to get around from there fairly easily? hard to tell from the map.
thereuare Posted March 19, 2010 Report Posted March 19, 2010 Downtown-Soho is "do-able", but not nearly as convenient as the other more centrally located midtown zones... figure about 25 minutes via subway to get to midtown/Times Square. It wouldn't be my first choice of location, but if significantly cheaper than its midtown counterparts, it can be done. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
