lollipop Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 Hi there! :) Finally finalized flight plans for our 1st trip to NYC with the in-laws for April 8-12.We are looking to secure 2 rooms @ a max of $160 per night/room + taxOur ideal areas (based on these forums!) would be in the following order:1) MTE2) MTW3) CPS4) TSWould love 4* if possible. Thank you in advance, looking forward to your bidding progression recommendations!
thereuare Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is price or zone more important? In other words are you willing to pay more to stay in the MTE vs. MTW zone, and then willing to pay more to be in the MTW vs. CPS zone, etc, etc... OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better in any of the above 4 zones?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lollipop Posted March 16, 2010 Author Report Posted March 16, 2010 Thank you for responding Thereuare! You're right- we would be willing to spend more to stay in MTE vs. MTW, then MTW vs. CPS, CPS vs. etc.So Zone> price. Thanks again, looking forward to your recommendations!
thereuare Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* MTE...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and re-bid zone5...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINEYou can then repeat all of the above for MTW, then repeat for CPS, then repeat for TSAny questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. lollipop Posted March 21, 2010 Author Report Posted March 21, 2010 I tried a couple of times (March 16th & 17th) with no success bidding up to $165 for both mte and mtw, (then up to $150 for CPS & TS).I tried again today, and ended up getting the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, for $165/night x 2 rooms...Reviews aren't amazing (with most saying it's not 4* worthy), but it looks like it'll save us a couple hundred bucks over the retail ($189/night/room) being offered for the same period of time. Was hoping for W hotel in MTE, but will have to hope for that next time. Thanks for the help thereuare! I appreciate it!
thereuare Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Congratulations on your success! While the reviews for this property are mixed, they are greatly improved from what they were a year ago, so the hotel is definitely making strides in the right direction. The location is very good as well and should work well for your needs getting around the city.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. lollipop Posted December 31, 2010 Author Report Posted December 31, 2010 I figured I should add a follow-up from that trip 9 months ago. The hotel was more than fine. The rooms aren't massive by any means, but they were clean, warm, and a decent size (say, compared to a boutique hotel). However, downside to the size of hotel tends to lend itself to tour groups/etc... Which was exactly what happened in our situation- a choir (bunch of high schoolers) basically sat in a mob in the lobby- not so much fun. But, what can you do, right? :)BTW, while next time I would love to stay in a lower part of the city (very cool vibe), this really was a great central location- with Central Park mere blocks north, and great shopping a few short minutes south.Hope that helps!
