Austehn Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 Hello,First off, just wanted to thank everyone for the invaluable information I have already gotten from this board. I've always been nervous about bidding for rooms on PRICELINE, but this has helped tremendously.Second, I will be in Manhattan from 4/2 to 4/6, and I am hoping to get a 3* or 4* (4* preferred, obviously) for a maximum bid of $130 excluding taxes and fees. I would like to stay anywhere in Midtown or Central Park South. Just don't want to be too far south or north. What are some hotels that I can reasonably expect from this bid price and the neighborhoods listed above? Thanks!!Austin
thereuare Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can see hotels which have been reported to the board in each zone in our Priceline Hotel List.I'm doubtful that $130 will be enough for a 4* hotel but we can try if that's where you want to begin. After looking at the hotel list linked above, are you willing to accept the MTE, MTW, TS, and CPS zones? Is the Empire State Buiding zone acceptable as well or do you prefer to leave that out?Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. cool_beans00 Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 I have a follow up question, since i have a similar request just different dates. I'm not very familiar with the new york area so I limited my bids to 4* in times square, mtw, and central park south. I'm going there to be tourist and see the sites, shows, and eat lots of good food. so i figured times square is probably best right? I've seen some winning bids on here for MTE and Empire zone for ~120 range. Are those okay too? I know 4* will be nice, but how about just gettnig around and neighborhood. what about the ues or uws? I really have no idea. thanks. i hope i'm not hijacking this thread.or should i stick to ts, mtw, cps and lower the star rating to hit the same target price. btw, i will be using the link via this site
AaronJB Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 Coolbeans, Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please start a new/separate thread for your question.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Austehn Posted March 15, 2010 Author Report Posted March 15, 2010 Thanks for the reply!! I'll go and look at the PRICELINE hotel list, but in the meantime, I am totally good with any of the zones you listed. Also, I will need two rooms (three people traveling, one in a separate room), so does bidding for two rooms affect the outcome of my bid? Thanks so much!Austin
thereuare Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 Bidding for 2 rooms may effect your bid if the hotel with the lowest rate available has only offered one room at that price, but usually it's not a major factor. At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Austehn Posted March 16, 2010 Author Report Posted March 16, 2010 So as you predicted, $130 did not work. I actually went up to $140, and it still didn't work. However, I did get an e-mail saying that I can try again in 24 hours. I thought it was 72 hours? When can I go and remove the zones I previously selected and start completely over? Thanks again for your help! I'll keep you posted.Austin
AaronJB Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 If you have used up your bids, you can bid again in 24 hours.
thereuare Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 I did get an e-mail saying that I can try again in 24 hours. When it's time to bid again please DON"T use the links in the PRICELINE email, instead please return to the board and resume your bidding with the links here. When can I go and remove the zones I previously selected and start completely over?If you are looking to lower your star rating you can simply close the browser, use our link to re-access PRICELINE, and begin bidding for 3.5* or whatever lower star rating you choose. (although i'd first discuss zone selection with the board before using all the zones above). If you're looking to remove the zones already selected in order to continue bidding at the 4* level, you won't be able to do that, and you'll need to wait 24 hours before you're able to bid again for 4* hotels. What is your gameplan from here? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
