elader
In town for my nephew's graduation at Columbia and thought we'd make a weekend of it in the city. Prefer MTE, TS, or UES...may look at MTW if no luck with the other areas. Hope to keep it around $140 max.Two other questions: There are 3 of us, as my 11 year old is going as well. Do most of these hotels have 2 beds/fit 3 people, or can that be requested after a win? Also, my sister and her husband are going. Are we more or less likely to get a better deal if we try for 2 rooms instead of just one? Thanks for your help! Link to comment
AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. :)PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed/double occupancy. While one can request 2 beds from the hotel, there's a very high risk in NYC of the hotel saying no, as NYC's hotel rooms are generally small or quite small. Rooms with 2 beds are definitely limited in the city and, when available, often go for a premium.HOTWIRE has the ability to search for up to 4 people and the room will then offer bedding for 4. Are you planning on having 3 in the room, or were you looking for 5 in the room? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
elader
I was planning on 3 in our room, and 2 for the other room. Sounds like I am better off checking HOTWIRE, although there do not seem to be any great deals out there right now. Thanks - Link to comment
thereuare
I haven't checked rates myself for these dates, but they may not seem "that great" on account of this being high season (ie- Spring in NYC is typically more expensive than the rates we're currently seeing for the colder/winter months) and when searching for more than double occupancy in NYC it's not uncommon to see rates jump, sometimes substantially. As well, while Columbia's graduation ceremonies may not effect hotel rates much given the number of hotels in the city, if other schools are having graduation around the same time, the number of family/friends looking for rooms doubles, triples, etc with each school, so if other schools are having commencement on or about this same day, it can certainly effect rates. What rates are you seeing when searching HOTWIRE for 2rooms/4adults/1child? Are you and your sister willing to stay at different hotels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and your searches too! elader
Wound up booking a hotel in Secaucus that was much less expensive and right on the bus line into the city. Thanks! Link to comment
