nycalicat Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 My husband and I are staying in the city April 23rd-26th. I'd like to get a 4 star hotel - not terribly particular on location since subway gets you pretty much anywhere. I saw that Donna (earlier post, username IBDP) has had success booking MTE at 105.00. I would love to get that deal or keep it under 125 a night. Bidding areas that are okay: Chelsea, Soho, Empire, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS, UES, CPS, UWS. Also, we are taking the red eye out - so arriving early the 23rd - any experiences in checking in early?I'd appreciate any advice or bidding help - I'd be ecstatic if I could get the Grand Hyatt for 105 - any trends for when that has happened or how soon it was booked before the stay? If necessary, I'll raise up to 155 - which I'm pretty confident I could get based off of HOTWIRE.Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! If i have your current needs correct, you're looking for a 4* hotel in any of the zones listed above and at the moment only want to bid up to $125? One question before bidding..Above you mention Soho, but note that PRICELINE's zone for this area includes much more than just Soho, it also includes the Downtown-Financial area... is this entire zone acceptable, or were you hoping to only stay in the Soho area of this zone? As it appears that you're fine with staying just about anywhere in the city i'm assuming the entire zone is fine, but thought i'd check just to make sure our strategy is inline with what you're seeking for this stay. Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. nycalicat Posted March 16, 2010 Author Report Posted March 16, 2010 I'm totally fine with the entire Soho area - I was just shortcutting typing the whole name out :)
thereuare Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 At the 4* level in NYC you have FIVE re-bid zones. nycalicat Posted March 17, 2010 Author Report Posted March 17, 2010 I got a hotel - not in love with it but that's the risk you take with PRICELINE. I booked the Gild Hall in the Downtown area for 141.00 a night. Bathrooms look great but I am not an antlers type person and I think with that obscure of a location I could've done better. I got the 141 using the rebid zones and went from 140 which was not accepted to 141 and DT which was. I'm not sure if I understand rebid zones correctly - when you rebid, does the rebid apply to only the new zone or to the new zone added as well as the previous zones checked? Thanks again for the help!
thereuare Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Thank you for sharing your results with the board... sorry to hear you're disappointed with the outcome, but the reviews of this hotel are excellent. When you re-bid you're adding the re-bid zone to the previous zones selected. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
