NApKiLLa Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Planning a trip to Maui around May. Around 9 -10 days. 1 room needed.I really would like to get the Westin Maui Spa. However, following the advice of a fellow betterbidder, I tried looking at the packages offered and even played with the dates. It doesnt list the Westin for any of the days i tried. The Sheraton package seems really good on Priceline though. It look like its only $222 a night for 9 nights and thats just the package. I'm wondering how much lower I can get it for using Priceline? I know the Sheraton, Hyatt and the Westin are all listed as resorts for Ka'anapali - Lahaina. I would like to bid for the Westin but am not sure if I will be able to get it. I dont want to overbid for a lower hotel like the sheraton and am hesistant to bid around $210.
LoneStar Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 We can probably give you a better guess is you post the specific dates, but my recollection is that Kaanapali resorts go for as little as $140, so you want to start your bidding there (heck, with plenty of time, bidder lower and just rebid in 3 days). If the Sheraton is showing up in a packages search for your days at a cheap price, my guess is something around $140 might work.FWIW, I don't think that May is a big month for Hawaii, so you could be patient and see if anything else becomes available. Just remember that priceline is non-refundable, non-changable, an important consideration when you're plunking down more than $1000 on travel months in advance (I don't personally know if the trip insurance feature is of any value).
NApKiLLa Posted February 1, 2005 Author Report Posted February 1, 2005 Thanks for the quick reply but because of consultant work and tax season coming up it is hard to get a specific date at this time but i was looking at the time period of 5/4 - 5/13.
LoneStar Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 It doesn't sound like you have your days exactly nailed down yet, which -- given the fluid nature of priceline availability -- makes specific advice meaningless. That said, if you muck around with the dates a little, you see that the Sheraton has availability throughout the period, and other resorts are offering more scattered dates. In other words, if you broke down your stay in chunks, you might be able to "manipulate" what hotel you get, at least on certain days. I did not see the Westin at all, but the Hyatt may be close on some days. There are also some good deals at the Renaissance in Waimea on certain days. I've stayed there, it's a nice change of pace from Ka'anapali if you want to split up your stay and explore the island.
charliemcarter Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Aloha - May slower month than Feb/Mar here. Be sure to buy an Entertainment Book (cheap if ordered as "out of area" from you home area) to use as a price guide if at all possible + all the coupons once you get here. Good luck on Maui
