sethjvm Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Hi,I need to get a 3* minimum for April 2-5 near Legoland for 4 adults and 3 children.I already have already held 2 rooms at the Doubletree Golf Resort San Deigo for an average of $83 per room per night as a fall back position. My goal is to be closer to Legoland in a similar or better quality hotel for less.North County CoastalDel Mar - Rancho Santa FeSan Diego Coastal --- may be okay if it is nice (the 4* stuff might be doable for a good price.)Escondido - Vista --- would be doable but not preferable.Do I stand a chance of improving my situation through betterbidding? If so, what type of bidding strategy is recommended with the focus being on convenience to Legoland.thank you for a great site. I use the PRICELINE links when I book.
thereuare Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!First issue is that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, which means you could receive a room with only one bed, which i'm assuming wouldn't work well for your plans. Is this a risk you're willing to accept?HOTWIRE does allow you to search for up to quad occupancy per room... have you ran a search at HOTWIRE for 2rooms/4adults/3children to see if anything is offered within your budget?Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sethjvm Posted March 17, 2010 Author Report Posted March 17, 2010 I'm sure that I could have done better but here's what I did.Bid $40 per room for North County Coastal (NCC).Bid $45 per room for NCC and then Del Mar - Rancho Santa Fe (DMRSF).Waited 24 hours.Bid $48 per room for NCC.Bid $50 per room for NCC and Escondido.Bid $55 per room for NCC, Escondido and DMRSF accepted by Hilton San Diego/Del Mar.So I'm all in for $388.44 for 2 rooms for 3 nights versus the $524 I was going to spend to be further away from the beach and Legoland.I did use the PRICELINE link at the top of the page. I probably could have tried harder for NCC using the 9-rebid zones but I think I did okay since my goal was to be closer and spend less.I called the hotel after winning to request that one of the rooms have 2 beds so we'll see how that goes.
thereuare Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see this worked out well for your plans... and budget, a very nice deal!Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Have a great trip!
