I am a first timer and was hoping someone could help me....I need a hotel for one night in NYC for a Half Marathon in Central Park....last year I stayed near Time Square and we were fairly far away from my starting point which is around East 69th Street (I believe)....I need a room for the one night 4/24/10....and I am unsure of what area to bid in on HOTWIRE or PRICELINE to have my best chances of being in that area...I am looking for a 3* or higher...

Thanks :)

... and also if you're willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR if the least expensive 3* or better is what you're seeking for this stay.

We'll then try to figure out your best options for this trip.

Just to confirm, I am looking for a hotel...clean, affordable for one night 4/24/10. Close to Central Park in the area of 60's on East or West Side.....from what I can see CPS is my best bet. Then I am thinking if I do 4* I could do MTE, UWS, MSG or UES due to lack of 4* Hotels and the Empire would be in a good distance. I would consider going to a 3* or 3*....location to me is more important. I have tried a few times without success so I guess I need some strategy help please.

Price I will do up to 200.00 including all taxes and fees.

Thanks SO much!

Based upon your criteria i believe so too.

Some of these zones have 4* hotels... it's not clear if you're willing to stay in some of these zones and which you're using as re-bid zones (which only contain star levels less than 4*). You actually have FIVE re-bid zones available at the 4* level. If you're not sure which 5, please see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board.

Which zone(s) have you already bid and at what was your highest bid?

Thanks for the reply....I am willing to stay in CPS, UWS and MTW. I have tried a few times over the last few weeks and finally came here for help ;-)

I have recently tried MTE, CPS, UWS, MSG, UES at level 4* using the rebidding strategy not sure that I did it properly but My highest bid on that was 133.00....

Can someone offer any suggestions on how to go about doing the bidding? I dont mind going up in the price, just want to make sure I get a decent price on a hotel in that area.....

A few of the hotels I see that are in the area of my race are: Empire, Jumeirah Essex House, Hudson Hotel, 6 Columbus Circle, Hilton New York , Le Parker Meridien , Loews Regency Hotel.....

If I cant find a 3 1/2 or 4* in this area I would be willing to spend less to be further away. I am sorry this is so confusing but I am lost ;-)

For example, if I can stay at any 3 1/2 or higher in CPS or Empire in UWS, I am willing to spend up to 200.00 including taxes/fees......this would be my TOP choice BUT if I had to I would consider MTW as well.

Thank you SO much to all!!!

I am willing to stay in CPS, UWS and MTW.

If willing to bid MTW, doesn't this potentially put you further South then the Inter-Continental Barclay, which you said was too far South? The InterContinental is on 48th St and the MTW zone goes as far South as 45th St.

If you want to bid MTW, then i would think you would also find the InterContinental Barclay ($153/nite) acceptable and therefore would want to lower your maximum, since you could end up paying more and being further south in the MTW zone then if you simply took the InterContinental Barclay. Does this make sense?

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

First, Thanks again for the help.

I guess like biddingyyz said MTE looks OK.....MTW like you said my end up being further south...to be honest its just so hard to tell from looking at the maps of the area....because some of MTW would be OK but yes I could end up getting stuck too far south.

I guess lets go for MTE instead...and pray for CPS. I live in NY just not in the City and its difficult to determine how close the Hotels are when you are not overly familiar with the area and I will have to wing it....if I end up a little further it wont be the end of the world....Last year I was a little further than I wanted to be but we dealt with it.

Thank you!!!!

So to confirm.... you're now looking for a 4* hotel either the MTE, CPS or UWS zones with a $200 'all-in' (~$168 maximum bid price)

Is this correct?

NOTE: i'm not currently seeing the Inter-Continental offered for your nite anymore.

Yes, that is correct BUT I would also go to a 3 1/2 * for a lower price as well.....so max including taxes for 4* 200.00 and for 3 1/2* including all taxes, what would you say 170.00?

Thanks! I look forward to bidding ;-)

I am sorry I am probably driving you insane...to be honest.....Can I ask your opinion....which in your opinion would I have a better shot at being closer to central Park? That is my main concern, so that is what I am basing it more on......but if you prefer not to get into that then I guess I would be better off saving my money and shoting for a 3.5*

I am sorry to be so confusing but I have never tried this and hope to get a hotel using priceline and continue to use it in the future ;-)

Thanks so much

With PRICELINE there is no way to take a guess as to which hotel in the zone you will receive before your purchase... if you are looking to take a guess as to the hotel and/or location HOTWIRE can be a better option as you can take an educated guess as to the hotel you may receive based upon the amenities shown before your purchase.

Here is my general advice...

Not sure how familiar you are with NYC, but you're focusing too much on the location relative to your starting point. The NYC zones are so compact and right next to one another, that some parts of a zone may be very close to your desired location, other parts of the same zone may not be. If you land in a zone that is too far to walk in the morning, hop i a cab and take an under $10 cab ride to the starting point. Better to save $20 on a hotel room and spend $10 on a taxi ride :)

As well, Central Park is HUGE. if your starting point is at E69th St. i don't see how the UWS would be the best location for you as you'll need to get to the park on the West side and then cut thru the park to get to the East side... unless you intend to take a taxi, at which point we revert back to the location not mattering that much since you can take a taxi from anywhere in the city to the starting point. As well, there are no subways above 57th St that go crosstown, so if you end up on the West side walk or taxi would be your only option.

I would bid CPS and MTE... if you land a hotel in CPS then you'll likely be close enough to the park to walk to the starting location... if you land MTE you can get on the 6 train to 68th St. and easily get to the starting line from there (or take a taxi if you want to spend the extra money)

If bidding CPS you're not likely to get a 4* hotel as it's an expensive zone at that star level, but a 3.5* may be possible... if MTE i would stick with 4* as some of the known 3.5* hotels will get you too far away from the subway line.

Thank you SO much! I agree and appreciate the great advice. If we land too far we can hop in a cab or take the 6 train like u said.

Can we use a strategy to bid CPS and MTE like you suggested....? That would be great! Thanks again for the advise as it sounds like you know the area much better than I do. :-) :)

At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)

Select 3.5* CPS...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 3.5* CPS and re-bid zone2...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 3.5* CPS and re-bid zone3...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 3.5* CPS and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $150

I am sorry, could you please confirm my rebidding zones before I begin. I dont want to mess this up ;-)

I am assuming it would be the three areas that do not have a 3 1/2 star hotel and I come up with UES, UWS and Chelsea? Thanks ;-)

I followed instructions exactly and didnt get anything ;-( Not sure if price is too low or hotels are booked? Any other suggestions? Should I try my luck at a 4* in MTE? I appreciate any other suggestions....Thanks for all the help!

Unfortunately, it would appear this rate isn't enough to be accepted.

There is a 3.5* in MTC with fitness, restaurant, internet for $169 on HOTWIRE - that would likely be the Club Quarters Midtown. That is a 3.5* on PRICELINE in the MTW area. I wouldn't recommend bidding 3.5* MTE, given the location of some of the possibilities in that zone, but you may want to see if the 3.5*'s in the MTW zone (there are only 2, although you could possibly get upgraded to one of the 4*'s) may work for you. If so, you could start over again at $110.
