Patty42day Posted January 31, 2005 Report Posted January 31, 2005 Help please! I'm new to this board and amazed at the great deals that can be had! We are traveling to JFK-NYC March 4 - March 8 (4 nights) on a combined leisure and business visit and have to pay hotel costs on nights of March 4 & 5 while my company will pay for nights March 6 & 7. We want to spend no more than $100 per night for the first two nights, but I can go up to $199 for the last two nights. I thought splitting up the nights at two hotels would work best for the budget and Jersey City Hyatt sounds like a great deal for us on March 4-6 - staying in a nice hotel, great skyline view and very convenient to NYC - we are going to see Blueman Group Sat. night and then we can stay closer in the city when my company pays those last two nights. This is only our second visit ever and last time we stayed at Sheraton on the Hudson in Weehawken, which was very nice and great views, but seemed a bit far away from it all (took the ferry and then a bus) and then two nights at Sheraton Towers in the city, which was great and convenient. We prefer to stay in NYC all the days at one hotel, but doubt we can find anything nice (3* or higher) around $100 on Fri. and Sat. night so Hyatt sounds like best choice. What is the best way to get the best rate - Priceline or Hotwire for this particular hotel? What is the percentage chance it will be that hotel? I just did a search on Hotwire and got a rate of $69 for Hoboken-Jersey City with only two hotels listed. The one that sounds like Hyatt has 3.5* with restaurant, pool, business center. Could that be it? I may just book this one while I can as it sounds like a great rate. Would Priceline rates be better or also more of a chance I could get a different hotel? Any and all suggestions sincerely appreciated. Thanks!
thereuare Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please go back to HOTWIRE and list here the amenities that were shown with the 3.5 star property so we can confirm that it equates with the Jersey City Hyatt.Priceline is usually a little bit cheaper (unless there is a rate change during your stay but i don't think that applies here), but it will likely take a little bit more work.Let us know the info above and if you think you'd like to try Priceline or not. Please start a new thread in the NEW YORK >> PRICELINE part of the board if you'd like help with the other part of your stay. Patty42day Posted February 1, 2005 Author Report Posted February 1, 2005 Does this sound like it? These are the amenities listed on Hotwire:Hoboken - Jersey City Hotel 3.5*This Hotel features the following amenities: Restaurant(s)At least one restaurant is located on the premises. Restaurant hours may vary. Pool(s)Property features at least one pool area. (Note: This amenity offering may be seasonal. Please check hours/availability directly with the property.) Business CenterGuests have access to business equipment/services.If I tried Priceline instead, what should I do and will my chances of getting this particular hotel be good? Thanks
thereuare Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 That does look like the Hyatt Regency. If you book it thru Hotwire please use THIS LINK to do so.If you want to try Priceline i'd think you're chances are pretty good, but no guarantees, if you keep your bid low enough. There are no re-bid zones so you have to bid this every 72 hours and i would use the following bid amounts: $37, $48, $55.I'm doubtful that the $37 would be successful as we have not seen a bid accepted this low in quite some time, so if you want to get this done as soon as possible (and hopefully not see the hotwire offer disappear in the meantime) you may want to skp that bid amount and start at $48... i only include it because although i'm doubtful a win would be accepted at that price, it's still too early to draw a definitive conclusion that the $37 price point is no longer available.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and keep us updated as to your progress. Patty42day Posted February 1, 2005 Author Report Posted February 1, 2005 I'm ready to try Priceline at $48, but I see that the Doubletree is also on the 3* list. I really only want the Hyatt. What are chances I could get Doubletree instead? It appears most people get the Hyatt on this board, but I thought I would ask you real quick before I try it and get Doubletree instead. With Hotwire it lists the amenities (pool) so I feel safer, but sure would like to save another $20 a night if I can. Let me know what you think asap please. I want to book something today. Thanks so much!
thereuare Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 There lies "the rub"... take the more sure thing (although the diclaimer in me reminds you that nothing is certain/guaranteed) or try to save more money.Historically speaking a $48 bid should keep you out of the DoubleTree... but somebody has to be the first to report a new low price at a given property, so you have to hope that it won't be you this time :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Patty42day Posted February 2, 2005 Author Report Posted February 2, 2005 :) Got it at $47 per night on Priceline! I'm so glad I found this very helpful board. This was my first time and I'll for sure use again in the future. Thanks so much!3* Hyatt Regency on the Hudson - Jersey CityMarch 4 - March 6$47 per night on Priceline2 nights @ $94.00$20.96 taxes and service fee$114.96 total
thereuare Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 Fantastic... thanks for the report.Looks like we may be able to lower the now 'typical' $48 bid by a $1 too! :) Enjoy your stay.PS- i live very close to here so if you need any help with the area just let me know, also check out a restaurant where board users can get a 10% off: BAJA JERSEY CITY (but stick with the dishes recommended... the 'Baja Special' or the steak fajitas :) ) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
