denver17 Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I am new to the site but I could use some help...We are traveling to NYC 4/19-4/23 and need 2 rooms. One must have a walk-in shower. I have been told by priceline that if we win a bid and the hotel can not meet that request we would be refunded but what about the 2nd room? Are we locked into that room or if the hotel can't meet the accessibility request can we start over? We would like to stay in the $125-150 all-in if poss and would drop to 3.5* to do that if we have to.Can you help with a bidding strategy?
thereuare Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! If both rooms were booked under the same reservation, I would assume the second room would be canceled, but i don't know for certain, i would send PRICELINE an email and ask (this way you have written confirmation of their response should you have a problem down the road)I would first confirm the above with PRICELINE, then if you get the 'green light', let us know if your $150 limit is your maximum bid amount or 'all-in' amount (including taxes and fees) and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. denver17 Posted March 9, 2010 Author Report Posted March 9, 2010 I emailed Priceline and received a very confusing reply. The first reply said that there are no changes for any reason, I emailed back the section of their website that deals with accessible rooms and got another response that they would make sure there was an accessible room but nothing about the 2nd room. I called Priceline customer service and was just told that they would accommodate or make any changes neccisry if the hotel we won in biding could not provide an accessible room. I am sending an email back again because I would like that in writing...Anyway lets move forward on a bidding strategy if possible. $150 is an all-in number we would prefer a 4* but would go as low as 3* if we had to.
thereuare Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I don't think you'll likely be successful for a 4* hotel at $125 (equivalent to $150 all-in) but to give it a try:At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* TS, MTE, and MTW...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. denver17 Posted March 15, 2010 Author Report Posted March 15, 2010 Thanks for the help. After numerous phone calls with priceline we have decided to not risk it on Priceline. I am still looking at the poss. of Hotwire and will be posting a question over there to help identify a couple hotels if we can narrow it down and confirm Handicap accessibility at those we might go that route instead.
denver17 Posted March 15, 2010 Author Report Posted March 15, 2010 I posted on Priceline board but because of our special situation needing a Handicap room I am too nervous to book on there. I feel like if we can narrow down the choices with Hotwire then I will be more comfortable booking this way.The two choices I have found are 3 1/2* Hotels one is in the Downtown-SoHo Zone... The Amenities are Fitness Center, Business Center, High Speed Internet and Laundry. Forgot to add prices $137 a night. The other Hotel is in the Chelsea-MSG Zine. It is also 3 1/2* and the Amenities are Fitness Center, Restaurant, and High Speed Internet. $139 a nightAgain if we can narrow it down and I can call those hotels and check Handicap availability first then we can go that route. Thanks for the help
thereuare Posted March 15, 2010 Report Posted March 15, 2010 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. The Downtown property is a match for the World Center Hotel while the MSG-Chelsea property is a match for the Ramada New Yorker, so that would be my best guess for each. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. denver17 Posted March 16, 2010 Author Report Posted March 16, 2010 Thanks for all your help...We went through HOTWIRE and got 2 rooms at the New Yorker for $133 a night 4/19-4/23 I have talked with the manager there and once the reservation is in their system he will make it a handicap room.I'll be posting again soon because we go to Atlantic City for the Weekend and may try HOTWIRE again.THanks
