AaronCal Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 Hi! This is a lovely board, and I have read through various posts about Nassau. But I wanted to ask my own question...Can anyone suggest where to stay in Nassau? Also, which service should I use... Hotwire or Priceline? I like how Hotwire shows pictures of the Hotels, but I have a feeling they are higher priced then Priceline. I don't mind "flying blind" as long as I know I'll end up at a nice hotel. So, I don't mind using Priceline, but is it possible I could end up in a dump if I choose 5* or Resort? Any suggestions on what I should bid for 5* and Resort through priceline would be greatly appreciated, and if you know what Hotel/Resort I'm likely to get I'd like to know that to! Thanks in advance! Aaron

AaronCal Posted January 29, 2005 Author Report Posted January 29, 2005 Hi thereuare! I will be staying 3/20/05 - 3/26/05, flying into Nassau from Ft. Lauderdale.I got a steal on tickets for only $300 for two passengers roundtrip through www.cheapflights.com. I'm willing to pay up to $100 a night for a room. We'd like to be on or within a short walk (i.e. one or two blocks) to the beach, any attractions, booths to signup for water sports, diving facilities, and restaurants. Right now if you do a search on Hotwire under hotels for Nassau on the dates on 3/20 - 3/26, 1 Room and 2 People, it comes back with a 3* $62/nite Hotel/Resort. (The Icons sale Hotel, the description says Resort?!) I'm wondering if this is a good deal that I shouldnt let slip away. But I don't want to end up with a "lemon". I'd rather pay more (up to $100) for a nice place. Thanks!Aaron
thereuare Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 You didn't list the amenities shown for this 3 star property (you may want to do so to make sure we're looking at the same offer), but a 3* i show on my own search reveals a hotel i believe it to be the Sandy Beaches Resort. It's a timeshare property at the reviews are mixed... but if you're looking for a 5* or Resort property it's probably not what you are looking for.Which island are you planning on staying (or does it matter?)... the above hotel is in the paradise island area but are you also considering Grand Bahamas Island? AaronCal Posted January 30, 2005 Author Report Posted January 30, 2005 We are flying into Nassau, I believe that's Providence Island. So we would like to stay on Providence Island mainly, but I could make the trip if there's a nice hotel on Paradise. The Sandyport Beach Resort does not sound to appealing with those reviews. But on trip advisor I saw the West Wind Club II, which is within my price range since it starts at about $70. Any idea on how I could book a room there for under $100? The hotel I saw on Hotwire has the following ameneties...[Hotel, Resort, Near Beach, Restaurant, Pool, Tennis Nearby] - This place was $62 a night for the dates of March 20 - 26th. $62 a night is cheap in my book, but I'd rather fork out a little extra for a better club. So what do you think?
thereuare Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 On Grand Bahamas Island both the Sheraton and Westin are sold-out for your stay, although you may have a chance for the latter half of your stay if you're willing to SPLIT YOUR BID.Do you have any type of back-up plan or current reservation (if so, where and how much?) I'm not too sure if your desire for a Resort property on Paradise Island for $100 is realistic.
