Hello everyone,

I have been reading this forum for a few weeks and really find some great information. I appreciate all the informative suggestions & ideas.

We (2 of us) are visting DC for the first time May 12th-16th and wanted to stay close to the tourist attractions and close to the Metro since we are not renting a car.

Decided on the White House-Downtown (WH-DT) and Convention Center-Capitol Hill (CC-CH) areas to bid on. I have a $10 bonus on Priceline so for example if I bid $100 for a room Priceline will add $10 to my bid (total $110) up to 5 nights so I want to use this before it expires.

Been bidding for about two weeks and ALL my bids have been denied. :)

Heres is my bidding history so far. This is the total price with my bonus:

1) WH-DT 4* - $100

2) WH-DT 4* - $120

3) WH-DT 4* & 3.5* - $150

Added CC-CH

4) CC-CH 4* - $140

5) CC-CH & WH-DT 4* - $145

6) CC-CH & WH-DT 4* & 3.5* - $149

At this point I have no idea on high I have to bid in order for the price to be accepted.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance for ANY help you can offer! :)

OK ... so nobody has offered any suggestions yet. :)

Is there a different area that I should be bidding?

And heres an update ob my bidding:

Started with Dupont Circle/Woodley Park

4* - $140 Declined

Added Whitehouse/Downtown

4* - $146 Declined

Added Capitol Hill

4* - $156 Declined

Im disappointed because I have read other bids being accepted for way under these prices im offereing.

Am I doing something wrong??

If you're ok with staying at 2 different hotels and moving, try splitting your bid. You're more likely to win a decent price for May 14-16 over the weekend, especially in the White House/Capitol Hill zones.

Another option would be to go to Crystal City. Metro stop there is walking distance to most of the hotels and all of the hotels have shuttle to the metro or the airport.

NPW is National Police Week. It's an annual event that draws around 12,000 people every year. That is one of the big reasons that hotel costs are so high around that time. NPW takes place at the same time as the graduations for both GW University and Georgetown University. The demand is very for that week/weekend and the high prices reflect it.

I am going on the same dates as you are. I've booked a reservation at the government rate (which is a sky-high $226 per night + tax), but I continue to look for deals. As of yet, no sucess. The farter away from the actual District you are, the better the prices. But the distance really sucks, especially when it is hot.

Whats NPW ?? As of today no succuess yet. Up to $155 for the 3 zones mentioned.

Using this forum's PRICELINE link to bid :)

At least you now know why rates are so high (thanks for the info MIguy)... how high are you willing to bid for a 4* at this time (or before you consider lowering to a 3.5* property)
