Cecece Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Hi...I am planning a NYC trip 5/2/10 - 5/11/10. I have previously stayed at the New Yorker Ramada since their remodel and was happy there. I am seeing that people have had some successful low bids ($75-105) at this hotel. Is this unrealistic to expect in the spring months? Is it better to use hotwire or priceline for this? How do I narrow the field so that I am most likely to get the New Yorker or are there other comparable hotels that will be included as possibilities that you'd recommend? I am looking for subway access and general safety and a "nice enough" hotel. Also I will need to visit Brooklyn for four days of the nine day stay. I would be willing to stay in Brooklyn if I could get a cheaper hotel that was still safe/nice/very close to the subway. I have used Hotwire before but never Priceline and never with a systematic approach as I've seen listed here. Help is appreciated. For now my max bid is $105, not including taxes.
thereuare Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! With PRICELINE there is no way to target a particular property, you have to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone that you select. HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, but you have the ability to know the amenities a hotel offers and/or take an educated guess as to the property being offered. What appears to be the New Yorker is available on HOTWIRE for $179/nite. Given that rate, i'm doubtful you'll be able to land this property for $105, and if you are successful bidding, it won't likely be for this property.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Cecece Posted March 6, 2010 Author Report Posted March 6, 2010 Today on HOTWIRE there is a 3 1/2 star hotel in the Chelsea Madison Square Garden area for $159. Amenities are complimentary breakfast, business center and high speed internet. At first I thought this could be the New Yorker but no not with the free breakfast...any idea what this one is? I have booked a back-up hotel that I can cancel that is $150 per night but would much prefer to go cheaper. Will definitely book through the links here when I find something.
thereuare Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 in the Chelsea Madison Square Garden area for $159....$150 per night but would much prefer to go cheaper. From your post above it doesn't sound as if you are willing to pay $159 since you have a back-up for less and are looking for something cheaper. What is your budget per nite for this trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
