travelnoob Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Trying to get a 5 star in either the Minato-ku or Chiyoda-ku region (though I rolled the dice a little and included Shibuya in my last bid attempt). Also relevant: the median retail price in Minato is currently reported as $246; the median price in Chiyoda is $421.03/01/10 Bids$135 - Rejected$140 - Rejected$145 - Rejected$148 - Rejected03/02/10 BidsWill update later tonight after the 24 hour lockout expires.

travelnoob Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 I just wanted to explain in case I never update this thread: Expedia.com has a good deal on the Dai Ichi Tokyo hotel right now. That hotel is right in the area that most interested me, and the Expedia price is actually a little less than I am currently bidding (it comes out to offering priceline $148). If I don't update this thread, you'll all know why.
thereuare Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Please update this thread with whatever you ultimately decide, and please note that we're an affiliate of Expedia so please use the link in this post or in the support page to begin your purchase. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. (or our Expedia link if you go that route) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
travelnoob Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 My apologies thereuare, I made a stopgap decision and booked with Expedia before I realized you are an affiliate. There are highly visible links everywhere about Priceline and Hotwire and few or none for Expedia, so I didn't realize I could get you credit through Expedia as well. I suggest, if possible, you add a link to your signature (something along the likes of "Yes, we are an affiliate for other air/hotel services as well!" and if the link is clicked, it takes you to the list showing Expedia/whatever).The potentially good news is this: although I got a good price on a hotel I wanted in an area I wanted, I see no reason to stop bidding on priceline. The reported 5 star in Minato seems to be Intercontinental Bay, which is a similar quality hotel in a similar (though slightly worse) area. I will probably bid quite low amounts, like $120 to $130. If I get a hit, then I will cancel my Expedia reservation (and get this forum credit for my bid). If I get no hits, I will simply keep my current reservation.Lastly, have no fear. Now that I know about the Expedia affiliation, I will make sure to get you credit for future purchases I may make. I really appreciate what you're doing on this forum and I want to help however I can.EDIT: I am actually graduating from UM Grad school in May. Saw your avatar and thought I'd drop a "Go Blue!" for you :)
