rback Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Hi,I'm taking a weeklong trip to NYC from 4/17/10 - 4/25/10.I'm looking for a 3* or higher property for $130 or less in one of the following areas in this order of priority: TS, MTW, MTE, MSG.On HOTWIRE, I found this property in MSG with the following amenities for $129.Fitness CenterRestaurant(s)High-speed Internet AccessBased on other comments on this board, I'm guessing that this is most likely the New Yorker Ramada Plaza. So now, I'd like to see if I can get a better deal than this using PRICELINE.I saw another thread on this board where someone was able to get the Sheraton Manhattan in TS for $90. I tried that first, but was unsuccessful. So what should be my strategy in getting a 3* or higher property in my indicated areas for under $130? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)What is the star rating of the property in MSG? Additionally, would you rather try to keep towards the lower end of your budget range, or are you interested in maxing out your budget to try for a 3.5/4*? Akso, is your budget $130 "all-in" (including taxes/fees) or $130 + taxes/fees?In terms of the Sheraton, rates do vary by dates - rates may be higher on these dates, and the week-long stay may also be an issue. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
rback Posted February 27, 2010 Author Report Posted February 27, 2010 What is the star rating of the property in MSG?The hotwire star rating for the MSG property is 3.5*. I don't know whether HOTWIRE star ratings are comparable to PRICELINE star ratings.Additionally, would you rather try to keep towards the lower end of your budget range, or are you interested in maxing out your budget to try for a 3.5/4*? Akso, is your budget $130 "all-in" (including taxes/fees) or $130 + taxes/fees?My budget is $130 + taxes/fees. I'm interested in getting the best property I can w/in this budget. So if I can get a 3.5/4* property under $130, that would be my goal.

thereuare Posted February 27, 2010 Report Posted February 27, 2010 Is price or zone more important?Did you want to bid up to your limit for the TS zone before trying for the MTW zone, then try the MTW zone before trying for the MTE zone, etc, etc... or is price ultimately the most important factor and you'd prefer the least expensive 3* or better in any of the above zones?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rback Posted February 28, 2010 Author Report Posted February 28, 2010 Just booked this property using HOTWIRE link from this board.I've been eyeing it for a few days when it was at $129/night and suspected it was the New Yorker based on earlier posted wins here. Not as good as the $119 as others got earlier, but slightly better than a few days ago.I tried my luck with Priceline to see if I could get a 3.5* any cheaper. But no go.So this was good enough for a property I was fairly sure of that has pretty good reviews on tripadvisor. Thanks for the assistance on this board. I learned a lot, especially about PRICELINE bidding. Perhaps next time I'll win a bid on PRICELINE ...
