712 Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 We won this hotel for the same price for a 2-night-stay (January 4-6). We arrived at 5 pm and the clerk told us that the hotel was oversold. We were sent to a sister property which required a 10 minute drive (Rodeway Inn near FLL Airport). It wasn't up to par with the Quality Inn, very noisy, not clean and limited items for breakfast. Make sure to get a room at booked hotel.
AaronJB Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Sorry to hear that you were "walked" (sent to another property due to the hotel being oversold) from this hotel. Did you get any sort of compensation for being "walked" (first night free, etc?) If not, I'd call PRICELINE and tell them what happened for this stay. Traditionally, when guests are walked, they are given some sort of benefit and should be put up at a comparable property (if you did not feel that the Rodeway Inn was comparable, that would be another issue.)What was the price paid for this stay (pre-tax/fees?)Thank you for sharing your win with the board and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
warsad Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Umm. I have always thought of Rodeway Inn as a 1* hotel at best 2*. I do not think that it is nowhere close to Quality Inn (2.5*) In cases such as this will PRICELINE provide a partial refund.
thereuare Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Industry practice is that the first nite is free plus taxi fare (if necessary) to the alternate property. Since the originating hotel isn't the one paid it gets a little more complicated, but generally speaking PRICELINE usually provides a refund for one nite's accommodations. However, for a multi-nite stay you would need to retrun to the originating property after the first nite. If this is not acceptable, then you may be able to negotiate with the first hotel to transfer your entire reservation with no compensation for the first nite. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. 712 Posted February 26, 2010 Author Report Posted February 26, 2010 Sorry for using the wrong forum. It was a HOTWIRE win. We paid 42/night plus taxes/fees. It was my first experience with Hotwire and we thought that this is common practice. We did not complain and accepted the "movement" to the Rodeway Inn - stupid German tourists ; )If we had known this helpful board before we would have asked for a compensation.
AaronJB Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 I'd still contact HOTWIRE and let them know what happen and say that you were not aware of what to do in the situation that you were walked from the hotel because of overbooking. While time has passed, it's still worth trying to see what they say or if they offer anything.
