Mahagen Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Hi I have some girlfriends coming from the midwest for the first time and we are taking the Amtrak to New York for a night. I am looking for a nice hotel no more than $120 (including tax) for April 16th in the Time Square area so we can have everything in walking distance. I hear cabs can be expensive out there. Please help with bidding suggestions through PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. I did try Time Square area and the surrounding areas for $95 and I couldn't get anything. My main thing is the area and price. I don't want my friends to be upset about a dirty hotel we are staying in. We are mainly going to leave our stuff in our hotel and be out shopping most of the time. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! *This is also my first time staying right in NY :)

AaronJB Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 If they are taking the Lake Shore Limited Amtrak train that originates in Chicago to NYC, do let them know that the last 2-3 hours of that ride (from Albany to NYC Penn Station) is gorgeous - the train goes along the Hudson River for that leg of the route and the scenery is fantastic. In terms of PRICELINE, there is no guarantee of 2 beds in the room, as PRICELINE reservations only guarantee double occupancy. While one can request two beds from the hotel, they can say no - this is especially true in NYC, where rooms are frequently small and two beds often goes for a premium. HOTWIRE, where one can select 3 people in the room and guarantee some form of bedding for the whole party, unfortunately is showing fairly high rates for these dates. Additionally, TS is traditionally the most expensive area of the city, and while $100 (which is around the bid for $120 when taxes/fees are included) unfortunately may prove tough for these dates, I think $100 in TS is going to be unlikely (and again, 2 beds would not be guaranteed via PL.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.
