juliaza Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Hi, I'm searching for a hotel from 4/15 to 4/20 in Washington, DC (ideally White House / Capitol Hill). For 4/15 - 4/19, I'm getting a rate of $159 for a 4-star hotel in the area with fitness center - swimming pool - restaurants - business center - high-speed internet. Based on previous members' posts (and some of my own research, which narrowed this down to the Hyatt or the Marriott) this is likely going to be the Hyatt Capitol Hill. Now, I'd have taken that in a heartbeat, unfortunately the rate is not available until 4/20. Does anyone have any experience booking a HOTWIRE rate for the majority of their stay (e.g. 4/15 - 4/19 in this case) and then extending the stay with a regular booking (4/19 - 4/20) on the hotel site? Are hotels usually accommodating (i.e. to make sure you stay in the same room) etc.?This is my first time using HOTWIRE and it's my mom's first trip to DC from Europe, so I'd like to make sure I choose wisely (if I do end up using the service). I do have One Washington Circle booked as a back-up (cancellable until the day before), but it's just a little far. Ideally, I'd like something in the White House / Capitol Hill area. Thanks so much in advance!Julia
thereuare Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Yes, you can have a HOTWIRE reservation and then extend the stay with a direct purchase. At check-in, just let the hotel now that you have a 'separate but continuous' reservation for an additional nite, and ask if they will block the room for you so that you won't need to change rooms. You will still (often) have to show up to the front desk on 'switch day' to have them officially checkout and and then checkin again, but they seldom will have you change rooms. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.
