VonBorakus Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Hey Everyone,My girlfriend is currently going to school in Manhattan and I am taking a weekend to visit her, March 25th-29th.Since I am unfamiliar with the area, I'm looking for a safer part and nice with a budget of about 100$ per night.I was looking at MTW and MTE as well as SoHo, really just looking for the nicest hotel bidding around 100$ per night.Oh and I did use the link posted on this board. Any advice on when to bid/ how is greatly appreciatedThanks in advance-Ryan
thereuare Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Under $100 usually doesn't have a high chance of success in NYC except on all but the slowest of days... your dates aren't too bad, but i'm guessing you'll likely have to bid a bit higher. What star rating are you seeking for this trip? What area does your girlfriend live in? Would you want to stay near there so you can see where/how she lives and the places she hangs out... or would you prefer to take her to a different part of the city so she feels like she's "getting away" a bit too?Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your bidding. VonBorakus Posted February 25, 2010 Author Report Posted February 25, 2010 Thank you,I am willing to go higher but probably not higher than $150 Given that price is it out of question to get a 3* or 4* ? Stars don't concern me the most but my main concern is cleanliness and safety (probably along with everyone else as well). She stays near the Brooklyn Bridge, but I was hoping for MTW or MTE for reasons you mentioned (feel like shes getting away), again I'm open to other areas too if anyone has better recommendations or just cheaper stays.Should I start looking right now or is it just too early? I've read mixed results of both looking early and waiting till the last minute. Thanks, I hope I answered everything.-Ryan
thereuare Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 See the related "book early or close to check-in" link in our PRICELINE FAQ.HOTWIRE has what is believed to be the well reviewed Roger Williams Hotel for $139/nite for your dates... some other 3.5* hotels in the midtown area for a bit less, so a $150 budget shouldn't be too much of a problem.Let us know if the above is of any interest and/or how you'd like to proceed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. VonBorakus Posted February 28, 2010 Author Report Posted February 28, 2010 I'm seriously contemplating staying at the roger williams, my only question that remains is, for the same price is there better out there?
thereuare Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 You might be able to get a better price for a hotel via PRICELINE... but you then won't be able to to take a guess as to the property you may received. With the above, it does show a 4.0/5.0 Tripadvisor user rating for this property, so even if it should turn out to be something different, you have a bit of a 'safety net' knowing that the hotel is well reviewed by past guests. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let u know how it goes or if we can be of further help. AaronJB Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 A junior suite at the Vinci Avalon (a 3.5* in Midtown South) is $142 and change on Expedia, plus 10WINTER takes $10 off. Expedia also has the Hudson for $160 (-$10 = $150)Please use the site's Expedia.com link if these ideas are of interest.
VonBorakus Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 Okay! This should be my last question before booking. On Hotwire is it the 4* MTE hotel with the following ammenities : Fitness center, restaurant, business center, internet, tennis facilty within walking distance. It also has 90% approval rating.Just want to be sure this is where I'm staying since it looks very nice. This of course will be booked using the HOTWIRE link provided on this site
AaronJB Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 This could be the Grand Hyatt or Intercontinental Barclay, but I'm seeing a 3.5/5 tripadvisor rating on the detail page, which would suggest the Barclay being the more likely. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
