Hi Everybody,

I am new to the forum, I have used it before in the past and it has been a great deal of help. I am planning a first time trip to New York with my wife in April, ideally we would like to be in or around Times Square but are open to other options or recommendations. Just doing some sight seeing and shopping and a show on Broadway.

Here is where I need help, I have used priceline in the past many times for weekends in San Francisco and vacations in LA, I am very familier with the hotels and zones. I am not so sure where to start in New York. I would like to get at least a 4 star rating if possible and am willing to go upwards of $175 before taxes.

Do you think this is reasonable for the areas I mentioned?

On another note, I am also a Starwood Gold Member and do usually get upgraded rooms at check-in, do you think it would be better to spend $200-$225 and book directly with the hotel?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Betterbidding.

If you decide to book via Starwood, I'd suggest looking into this non-refundable "Stay 3, Get 1 free" deal. Please use the link below.

Stay 3 nights, get a 4th night free

Under $175 would be possible for a 4* in one of the Midtown zones via PRICELINE, although I'd recommend consideration of MTE or MTW instead of TS, as both of those zones are nearby and hotels there are often a better value than TS, which is traditionally the most expensive zone in NYC. HOTWIRE is showing a series of Midtown 4*'s at about $180-210.

Let us know your thoughts and we will be happy to offer further suggestions.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

We're glad the information on the board has been helpful to you in the past, but it's somewhat disappointing that this is your first post... it would be appreciated if you began to share your wins with the board so that the information can help other users, just as the posts of others have helped with your own purchases.

How much is an 'upgraded' room worth to you? If, to pick a number it's $50, find your best deal at a Starwood hotel, and set your maximum bid $50 (or whatever number you determine) below that.

As far as zones, at the 4* level i'd be comfortable bidding MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB.

I'll also add that while not a 4* hotel, one of the best values for your dates seems to be the New Yorker Ramada Plaza which is a historic NYC hotel which used to get very poor reviews (and we recommended users stay away) but was recently renovated and has now been getting very good reviews. Personally, i'd lower my star rating and take this $129/nite hotel before spending $200+ for a starwood room, but it all depends what you're looking for from this stay.
