capeside Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 (I'd like to modify the topic title forgetting to say 'Please help..' please understand that I couldn't find the button for it.)Hello, I'm happy to have found this forum, which is very interesting and helpful. Apr 18, 2010 - Apr 24, 2010 4* Waikiki Beach area hotel. 2 adults, 2 children (It happens to match my family makeup for this trip!)What they suggest is $119 per night. 6 amenities on the screen include Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, Laundry Facilities, High-Speed Internet Access.Would you help me figure out what hotel is?As a first-time traveller to Oahu, I hope to receive "Sheraton Waikiki" mainly for my young girls. (easy access to beach and nice pools, etc.)Looking forward to your replies.Thank you in advance!Jen.
yellowdog Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding :) This is a match for previous reports of the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. The TA rating also match. So Sheraton Waikiki Hotel would be my best guess for this property. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase, and let us know how it goes or if you need any additional help with your stay.Yellowdog.
capeside Posted February 24, 2010 Author Report Posted February 24, 2010 Thank you for your quick reply. One question, what is the TA rating? Is it related to the percentage of customers recommending after staying in this property?I was wondering whether the statistics could be used as another clue for guesswork.Anyway, I'll come back to follow up after purchase. :)
thereuare Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 The percentage of customers recommending the property is based upon feedback HOTWIRE receives from their own guests.TA = Tripadvisor, and in this instance the tripadvisor user reviews for this property (4 out of 5 green circles shown near the bottom of the page after clicking the CONTINUE button next to this offering, under the percent recommended info) is consistent with the information for the Sheraton Waikiki. However, i'll add that i'm not currently seeing the hotel/amenities above offered when searching your dates in this zone for 2adults/2children. Are you still seeing this on your own HOTWIRE search? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. capeside Posted February 25, 2010 Author Report Posted February 25, 2010 Dear thereuare,I'm still seeing the same icons with the same price. Can it be any problem? When I entered the dates that a member above named 'icemaker' said produced Sherton Waikiki, with 2 adults / 2 kidsI was offered $125 (not $119) with Resort, Near Beach, Oceanfront, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Biz Center, Landry. and with only 2 adults,$119 with Near Beach, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool, Biz Center, Laundry, High-Speed Internet and Golf!I expected $119 with the same 6 icons that I received yesterday, maybe implying Sheraton Waikiki. What does make such different results?I just want to be cautious before making my first booking with Hotwire. :) Thank you.
capeside Posted February 25, 2010 Author Report Posted February 25, 2010 Never mind. I'm back to follow up.I received Sheraton Waikiki for $119 as I hoped for.(used the HOTWIRE link on this board)Thanks to your kind help, I got what I wanted in my first bidding(or booking?) with HOTWIRE.I find HOTWIRE and this forum even more helpful and practical than its PRICELINE counterparts! :) Jen.
thereuare Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and that the information on the board was been helpful with your purchase.Thank you for sharing your results with the board and using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay and have fun with your family on vacation. hawaiianlover Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Can I ask a question about the win? Did they get the Sheraton based on the original 6 icons at $119 as originally posted, or did they get the win based on the modified follow-up icons, which had changed? I am also hoping for the Sheraton and want to be as sure as I can be before bidding. Thanks for the clarification from anyone!
thereuare Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 The original 6 icons in the OP's first post... the other amenity combination was shown when searching for a different set of dates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. hawaiianlover Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Thanks Thereyouare. You've been a wealth of info and I'll only use your links from now on when booking thru PRICELINE and HOTWIRE! I appreciate your responses!
capeside Posted March 13, 2010 Author Report Posted March 13, 2010 I won Sheraton Waikiki through Hotwire for $119 per night.I think I saw some threads talking of room upgrade but can't find.Someone at Priceline forum said that on Sheraton front desk, there was a signsaying that a Priceline customer should pay $60 (or something) + tax for ocean view.Since I didn't tell if Sheraton applies the same policy to Hotwire customers,I asked via email. Now they say I need to pay $290 + tax per night for upgrade. What a whopping amount!I guess many of Hotwire/Priceline users paid on the spot for upgrade to ocean view room when they stayed at Waikiki resort (either Sheraton or others).but I don't think they accepted such unreasonable prices. Please share your experience and advice. Thank you!
thereuare Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Just ask at check-in for the type of room you want and negotiate with them (if necessary) at that time. The $290 number is either just "thrown out there" by them or the person didn't understand what you were asking, as you can currently book an Oceanfront room directly on their website for substantially less than $290/nite.
