oghsjbabbitt Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Hi I am looking for a decent hotel in NYC with subway access up to $130 a night. I see the HoJo Penn Station for 135.4t am hoping I can find a better deal since the reviews on tripadvisor are so iffy. I can adjust my stay by a night if I must to get a better rate as I have not booked airfare yet. Any tips on airfare would be appreciated too. Thank YouEdit: I found the Crowne Plaza at JFKCrowne Plaza at JFK on Easy Click travel for $149 and I may take that if it is close to the subway.
oghsjbabbitt Posted January 26, 2005 Author Report Posted January 26, 2005 Actually it looks like the Crowne Plaza is not by the subway...so I am back to square one.
thereuare Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 You really don't want to stay out by JFK... it's a hike to Manhattan and even more trouble due to the recent subway problem on that line. What is your maximum bid price (you mention $130 but then $149 for a hotel out by JFK) and what is the lowest star level you are willing to accept? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?Let us know the answers to the above and we'll try to help you find the best deal given your parameters. oghsjbabbitt Posted January 26, 2005 Author Report Posted January 26, 2005 My max bid would be 149...i would be willing to split up my stay once and i could handle a 2-star but am hoping for at least a 2.5 star.
oghsjbabbitt Posted January 26, 2005 Author Report Posted January 26, 2005 I am actually staying to the 26th not the 24th...sorry about that.
thereuare Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 At $149 you can do much better than a 2* property (and not have to stay out at JFK)...HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel in the MTS area for $146/nite, which i believe is likely the Sheraton Russel. If you want to go more of a budget route there is a fairly new Best Western near the Javitz Center (which is a little 'out of the way' but do-able if you don't mind walking 10 minutes to a subway station) for $119/nite.You can go with one of those, or tell us which you'd prefer and then we can suggest a strategy to try to beat it by using Priceline. If you decide to book one of the above please use the links in this post to do so.Good Luck and let us know whatever you decide to do. oghsjbabbitt Posted January 27, 2005 Author Report Posted January 27, 2005 Id prefer the location of the Sheraton...however it is pulling up for me at $161 a nite. That is probably due to the variance in hotwire rates. A bid strategy for Priceline would be fine, as long as what im likely to recieve would be in an ok location as far as subway access. (I know there are no guarantees) If there is chance I can save on rates by splitting the bid up as in bid th-sun then sun-thurs that would be fine as all I will be taking would be a rolling suitcase and a backpack.
oghsjbabbitt Posted January 27, 2005 Author Report Posted January 27, 2005 I also could handle the Jersey City Hyatt....which is coming up at 80 a night on hotwire. One question though....how long approx would it take from Yankee Stadium to get to a Path Station as the last train leaves at 1212AM and I am attending the game on the 24th. If I took the Hyatt should I take the Hotwire rate or try Priceline.
thereuare Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 PATH is 24/7, there is no 'last train of the nite'. The system does change from 4 lines to 2 at certain times, but you can always get from Point A to Point B. Figure <approximately> about 45 minutes on the NYC subway and another 25 minutes on the PATH to get from Yankee Stadium to Jersey City..I would try Priceline first before taking the HOTWIRE offer. If you want to try Priceline i would suggest a $48 bid for a 3* hotel in jersey city.Rates seem pretty much inline for this time of year and this far out, so i don't really see too much benefit to splitting the stay at this point (unless you wanted to split it between Jersey City and Manhattan) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
oghsjbabbitt Posted January 27, 2005 Author Report Posted January 27, 2005 I won the Hyatt for $69...since I was flexible with the dates I moved them around a little to be able to rebid (no free rebid zones). I rebid in 4-5 dollar increments probably about 4 times. I now can go watch the Yankees-Sox game on Friday night and take off sometime Saturday. Thanks fore Hyatt Regency Jersey City On The Hudson. 3*Your Offer Price: $69.00Number of Rooms: 1Number of Nights: 9Travel Insurance: $45.00Subtotal: $666.00Taxes & Service Fees: $101.12Total Charges: $767.12Thank you for all your help!
thereuare Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 Glad you go this worked out and happy with the results.... this is a great hotel.Since you'll be in the area for a while, i recommend checking out the JERSEY CITY BAJA where we have arranged for board members to get 10% off their meal. I'll also be adding a new restaurant in the next few days to the HOBOKEN / Jersey City thread... just have to find the time to write it up, but an early bird dinner special that is worth checking out!Can you let us know the actual dates you bid for so we can reflect it in the title of this thread.Thanks.
