Mandals Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Hi All!I have been following this blog for a few days and decided to post as I am stuck trying to find a suitable hotel in NY!I haven't used hotwire before, so I am not sure how it works.. and I have read that I can't use priceline as there are three of us..Travel dates are 4/28/2010 - 5/42010 and we are looking for something close to times square as we believe this is the centre of everything.None of us have been to NY before, so we don't want to stay too far away from attractions..Can you help to find something suitable? I am looking for 3 - 4* hotels. So I have seen 3.5* Mid town East Hotel: with internet, business centre, restaurant and fitness centre for $166.. is this close enough to where we want to be? I have also seen 3.5* Chelsea MSG Area: with fitness centre, restaurant, internet. Please help! I really want a good deal on a nice hotel! But I haven't got a clue where to look!:))
thereuare Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Best guess for the MTE property is the Roosevelt or the Tudor Hotel at the UN. The Roosevelt would be fairly convenient for a stay, some consider the Tudor to be do-able but a bit to far east.I'm not currently seeing the 3.5* in the Chelsea zone that you reference above... are you still seeing this on your own HOTWIRE search and are you including 3adults on your search (as you may get some different offerings if you only included 2adults in your search)I am also seeing a 3* hotel in the Chelsea zone with Breakfast, Fitness, Business, and Internet. This matches previous reports for the Holiday Inn Express Madison Square Garden so that would be my best guess. Like much of NYC the rooms are small, but this property gets good reviews and while at $183/nite is a little more than the MTE property above, this comes with breakfast included each day which may justify the slightly higher cost vs. the property above. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and/or how it goes or if we can be of further help. Mandals Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 Thank you for your reply!...After looking online, I really like both of those 3.5* MTE hotels.. And from the map they seem not too far out from times square.. do you know if they are well connected to subway and other transport? Are there any other deals for nyc hotels on sites other than hotwire? I have looked around lots! I can't seem to get anything nice for our budget which is
thereuare Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 The Roosevelt is well located and very close to Grand Central station where you can catch a vareity of subway lines... the Tudor is about a 10 minute walk to the subway (also Grand Central station) but also has a bus route right along 42nd St which can taking you crosstown which you can take and get off near whatever subway station you'd like along the route (but depending upon time of day, either due to traffic or bus schedule, it could be just as easy/quick to walk)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Mandals Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 I think this hotel will be suitable. One of the people I am travelling with has suggested to wait until the weekend to book as hotels in America usually have weekend sales.. I think this sounds like a myth?
AaronJB Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Hotels may have sales, but waiting is a risk, as if these are busy dates - and they are in the middle of the rather busy Spring season - rates could go up while you wait. Additionally, PRICELINE or HOTWIRE rates should be an improvement upon sales that hotels may offer. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases.
Mandals Posted February 25, 2010 Author Report Posted February 25, 2010 Hi!!!I am so excited - I got the roosevelt - in addition to the amenities lisetd, a good clue may be 75% of customers recommend this hotel, which is stated just below the amenities when searching... $166 per night for a triple room - in peak season is a great price!!Thank you for all of your help!!Mandals
thereuare Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and that you're happy with the results. As i often recommend to users staying in this area, give Ess-A-Bagel (51st St at Third Ave) a try one day for breakfast... a short walk from this hotel. One of the best bagels in the city and makes for a good, relatively inexpensive, breakfast among locals.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
