stmpjmp Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Hi there :) First trip to NYCity. Going strictly as dorky tourist.Fly in March 3, leave March 4, so one night is all.Have fairly simple requirements (I hope)Just looking for something that's decently located. (I was going to just stay near JFK (where I fly into) but have read here thats not the best idea even if it is cheapest) I haven't traveled in a long while so stars/levels confuse me. All I really need is a bed/bath in a non frightening place. Budget can handle $150 but lowering cost is always a good thing. Oh and in my traveling days I did a lot of Motel 8s/Comfort/Clarion type places and that was okay. (don't need those brands just trying to give an idea what Im most recently "used to")My sights list is pretty much MOMA (and maybe another museum if time allows), Central Park, and Times Square. I had really wanted to go to the Statue of Liberty but everyone so far has hinted its an all day affair and the Ferry near it ain't so bad vs. losing the whole day to be ON the island with her. Gotta figure that one out. That's about it I suppose. Anything (suggetions/ideas/links/places to go/anything!) thrown my direction would be great. Honestly, when I woke up this morning I had no clue I'd be heading anywhere. My friend just mentioned she was stuck at home on her b'day (school commitments) so I thought I could do a travel video/documentary of somewhere she's wanted to go for awhile (then email it to her from the road) so she can vicariously go on her b'day in a way, then go GO later on when she's free to travel. Thanks so much for any help. :) MikeP.s. Sorry if I seem sorta hokey. Most of my travel experiences have been hop in the car and drive, find a bed to crash on when you can't stay awake any longer so this type traveling is out of my comfort zone.M
AaronJB Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Very cute idea to film a "trailer" for NYC for your friend to offer a preview of the city.At $150, you have a number of different options.1. You could bid on PRICELINE; please let us know what zones you would be interested and which star ratings. In this case, would you be in trying to get a 4*, or would you be looking to keep at the lower end of your budget (2.5*/3*)?2. The Candlewood Suites Times Square is $136 on Orbitz, and coupon code WELCOME10 takes 10% off = $122.40. Suite, free breakfast and new property. Also on Orbitz - other hotels that work with the coupon: Holiday Inn 6th Ave ($106 - 10%), Paramount Times Square ($129-10%), Holiday Inn Midtown ($106-10%) and others.3. There are a few HOTWIRE options, such as a 3.5* Midtown Central with fitness, restaurant, internet for $119, which would likely be the Club Quarters Midtown.Let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll be happy to offer further suggestions. Please use the site's PRICELINE, HOTWIRE or Orbitz.com links to start your purchases and searches.
stmpjmp Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 Wow. Thanks so much already.I honestly dont care too much for amenities or features. It will be one day and im used to fairly modest hojo motel8 digs. The only thing id put in the dont need but would be kinda cool is some wifi. ill hunt it down if its a savings but being able to upload her videos/photos on her actual bday while in comfort would be a plus.oh.i did more reading as much as i could with work. i dont have an area in mind but did see the t square thread.if a deal is there ill take it since ill only have to fight the masses 2-3 times tops.Oh and sorry i messed up.i want to keep it $150 inclusive of all taxes if at all possible.150 is 3times my used to paying rate for a bed.thanks for the coupons.those look promising.did want to try to snag a deal deal priceline wise but those make it so i can sleep fairly easy the next few days as theres some backups.Only thing else i can think is do i need to stretch up to a 4 star? ill have some footage of me wrapping her presents in there but no grand tour/trying to impress. i will likely be asleep right after i hit the pillow then out the door early early 4am.thanks again for the help youve given and what else you have to give.
thereuare Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 There is currently a 3* in the MTC zone on HOTWIRE for just $81/nite with Fitness, Pool, Restaurant and Internet. This is a match for previous reports of the Holiday Inn Midtown 57th St so that would be my best guess for this one.Price is right and you're somewhat close to Columbus Circle which has multple subway lines to take you throughout the city... would this work for your plans or would you prefer to try bidding on PRICELINE?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. stmpjmp Posted February 25, 2010 Author Report Posted February 25, 2010 Scored the HOTWIRE deal but with a twist...$75 a night!!! ($99 w/taxes)It was the Holiday Inn @57th just as suggested.Thank you ever so much for the help. Feels like I did ok and I can spend the rest of my days planning what to do instead of stressing on where Ill stay.Oh and I made sure to use the HOTWIRE links given in your sig so I can hopefully give a little back in return for the help.So glad I tried here instead of giving up after that other place left me adrift. Ill pass along the site and the refer links to my friends.
thereuare Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received a GREAT deal on this property and are happy with the results... we're happy to have helped!Thank you for sharing your results with the board and using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.
