never2late Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 I need some help -- I need a bidding amount to start with for these dates -- we would like to be close to Time Square -- I was thinking TSQ, MTW, CPS. I would like to keep it under $300/night. How do you suggest I approach this. We would like to stay at a 4 star. Thanks
thereuare Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! For starters, i'd read this Hotels Near Times Sqaure thread, as more than likely you won't be spending nearly as much time in this area as you think (have you been to NYC before?)At the 4* level, the average visitor finds that MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, and ESB typically all work out fine and are conveniently located. However, ultimately it's your stay and you know your plans/needs best, so you'll have to decide if you want to consider these other areas as well. Let us know your thoughts, or ask questions, and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. never2late Posted February 17, 2010 Author Report Posted February 17, 2010 Okay, thank you for that tip -- Last time we stayed at the Salisbury Hotel which was very centrally located -- though not as nice as I would like to stay at this time. So which areas do you suggest if I would like to stay at a 4 star or above removing TX as a choice. Since we won't be bidding for TS, I guess I can lower my maximum amount to bid, yes? What amount do you suggest I begin at? Is this too far out from the date or not? Thanks
never2late Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 Well, I read what you suggested, read the other posts and attempted to bid as suggested. Voila! I won The Bryant Park Hotel 4* for $210. I am happy. I had booked a backup hotel for $425 so that is quite a savings. Thanks so much for all the advice and steps how to do this on your site.Bryant Park Hotel rates much higher in customer reviews on Trip Advisor than the Marriott Marquis which I had booked. And I used the link on your site to get to PRICELINE.Thanks.
thereuare Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Looks like a great deal and nice savings for this hotel. Glad to see you're happy with the results and this property works well for your plans. To clarify, it's not that i'm opposed to the Times Square zone, and i usually suggest including it in any bidding strategy... but for most users it's best to include other nearby areas as well, since the zones in NYC are so compact and close together, as well as mass transit being fairly inexpensive and easily accessible.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
