andrew_glasgow Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Hi, can you please share your experience of the sutton place if possible? Would be greatly appreciated as I'm staying there for 5 nights in summer. Thanks
ticallas Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 Sure Andrew, let me know if you have any specific questions as well - I am from Toronto originally so I'm happy to help. The Sutton is an older hotel, the rooms have more of a traditional look and furnishings than most hotels in the city. Rooms vary, it has some fantastic suites but with Hotwire or Priceline bookings, especially during busy season you will typically get a standard room which can be small; bed, desk, armoir and large dresser. The rooms have balconies so you can go to enjoy the fresh air at night, not something I did in the winter. Staff is excellent, this is probably where the hotel excels. I have found the staff is pleasant and courteous and the hotel makes sure all the small details are taken care of. It's been my experience everyone from housekeeping to the front desk go out of their way to make sure that you have everything you need and they are extremely aware of providing a full 'guest' experience, little things like pushing the elevator button for you as you approach the elevator bank to stopping cleaning when you walk past. The restaurant has typical offerings for the neighbourhood and I would say it's reasonably priced for the area as well but that doesn't mean it's not expensive. You're staying in one of the more expensive areas of town so higher end restaurants are plentiful and unless you are looking for convenience I'd venture out of the hotel for meals as you'll find a greater variety at any price point within a few blocks. It's only a short walk to shopping districts and entertainment but you might want to subway or taxi it if you plan on doing any of the major tourist attractions (CN Tower, Rogers Center, Harbourfront, etc) as it can be a bit of a walk when you'll be on your feet at your destination as well. Enjoy your stay there! :)
AaronJB Posted February 18, 2010 Report Posted February 18, 2010 Thank you for providing the follow-up/review, ticallas. :)
andrew_glasgow Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Thanks very much for the reply, that was very helpful of you. Didn't realise it was in such an expensive area so I think we'll probably try and find cheaper places to eat whilst we're there. You've definitely reassured me on the hotel, it looks like a lovely hotel and we can't wait to stay there. Do they all have balconies? Also did you request a particular room or make any special room requests prior to arrival? It sounds really amazing and again, can't wait to get there! :-DAndrew
ticallas Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 I believe the balcony is standard, I didn't make any special requests before staying there, don't usually bother for a hotwire booking nor a one night booking. As far as the location, you are also walking distance to the University of Toronto so there are certainly a lot of inexpensive places to go, it's just a matter of you are at an upscale hotel and the places on their list will reflect as such. When you are in the downtown core you are walking distance to just about anything so it won't be an issue, rather you have to know what to ask for and where to look, the hotel is 4* and a genuine four star, which means it's recognized as such on other sites (though I'm not sure when it's latest reviews were) and during special events such as TIFF (Toronto International Film Fest) it is booked solid with a celebrity clientele where other hotels listed on hotwire as 4* (I don't want to offend so I'll avoid naming other hotels) might not be as they attract a more family oriented clientele. I hope that helps a little. :)
