fgb Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Hi! Thanks for a great board!I will be needing to book Manhattan for May 12th. Will be arriving early a.m. and attending a function on the UWS that night. Will be leaving the next afternoon via rail, and then coming back into the city on Sat. the 15th for two nights. For the 12th, I don't have a preference on where to stay (I'll be taking a cab/car service from the function to the hotel). The only sight seeing I'd like to do the next day is the WTC site. I'd like my bid to be around $125 all in, have no preference except for a clean room :) Any suggestions & strategies? For that weekend, I'd like to stay CPS if possible for a total of $250-275 all in. We can work with that later if the pricing seems possible. Thanks for your help!
AaronJB Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)We'll use this thread for the first part of your stay - please start a new thread for the 15th-17th.In terms of options for the 12th - there's a lot of possibilities; is there any preference in terms of star rating (are you looking for the highest possible star rating, or is price more important than star rating?) Is there an area you'd prefer?Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.
fgb Posted February 17, 2010 Author Report Posted February 17, 2010 Thanks Aaron! For the 12th:I have no preference on where to stay. I lived in NYC years ago, so am familiar with the city, but not up to date on hotels, etc. Price--would love to stay around $125 all in. The only things planned on this stint is Upper West Side function the night of the 12th and going to the WTC site the next day before hopping a train to MA. The night of the 12th will be using cab/car service to get from UWS to hotel, then I have no issues using subway on the 13th.Thanks!
thereuare Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 A $125 all-in is equivalent to about a $102 bid, which usually isn't enough for a 'nice' hotel in NYC during the Spring. As you have plenty of time, do you want to start by trying for a 3* (or 3.5*) hotel? HOTWIRE has a few 3.5* rated hotels for ~$135/nite, but they come to about $165 all-in once fees and taxes are included. As well, it appears that hotel quality may actually be more important than location for this stay, so keep in mind that with PRICELINE you're not going to be able to choose the specific hotel you receive, you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select... if you'd like to have an educated guess as to the hotel you may receive before your purchase, HOTWIRE may be a better option (although the $135 hotels above seemed like the best value based upon star rating/price, and as you can see, are over your all-in limit)Let us know how you would like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
