ILwhit Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Greetings- I need help. I've read some posts and I've just joined this board. There is a lot of informaiton it is a little overwhelming.I want to book a hotel in vegas, on the strip for April 9-12. There will be 4 adults. We have stayed at the Trump before, and would like to try something new, but if we get the Trump again, we are okay. I've also stayed at TI, MGM and Riveria. We would like a 4 Star or better at less than $160 a night.Tips? How to start my search? It appears you can only do North or South on priceline and not Center.Any help appreciated. I'll be happy to share my results.
yellowdog Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding :) Tips? How to start my search? It appears you can only do North or South on priceline and not Center.PRICELINE only guarantees a room for two adults. That could mean one bed. Are you willing to take that chance? My suggestion is that you go with HOTWIRELet us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.Yellowdog.
ILwhit Posted February 12, 2010 Author Report Posted February 12, 2010 We need 2 beds, 4 adults....so, I guess HOTWIRE it is. Can I search for 3 on HOTWIRE, or should I search for 4?
AaronJB Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 If you need 4 adults, I would search for 4 on HOTWIRE.
thereuare Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 What i believe to be the MGM Grand is offered for your dates for $155/nite... would this work for your needs?Anything (else) you find of interest when searching HOTWIRE?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ILwhit Posted February 13, 2010 Author Report Posted February 13, 2010 I was hoping to get a little below $155...The MGM Signature would be fine....but do you think the prices will come down at all before April? Or just keep going up?Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 We would like a 4 Star or better at less than $160 a night.I was hoping to get a little below $155...Nobody can say if prices will go down, or up, between now and your stay... it all depens upon how new reservations and cancellations come in relative to expecations. However, there are two things working against you:1) you're looking for quad occupancy. PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy and would be a risk since you could receive a room with only one bed. The $155 is the best i could find on HOTWIRE when searching for quad occupancy. Many of the Vegas hotels now also charge for more than double occupancy... as much as $30/per person per nite! Even using your $160 maximum budget per nite, subtract as much as $60 for the extra two people, and you're at $100 room rate (before additional occupancy charges) which typically is not enough for a 4* on the strip for weekend nites.2) there is an 85K person convention starting on 4/12. Although this is your check-out day, many attendees will likely arrive before the event, and since 4/12 is a Monday, many may come for the entire weekend beforehand. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ILwhit Posted February 14, 2010 Author Report Posted February 14, 2010 Thanks for all your help. After watching Hotwire for several days, I wasn't happy with what I was finding, so I pricelined, got the Trump for $119, which is acceptable, and since the rooms all have fold out couches, we have room for 4. We may even pay to upgrade since we are splitting the room by 4 anyhow. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 Congratulations on your success! :)Glad that you're pleased with the result and that the Trump will work well for your plans.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
