cubedweller Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 I have been amazed with the amount of great "tactics" suggested here so I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me out with a strategy to get a 3* hotel in the LAX area for Tuesday Feb 2. I'm hoping to get something between $35-40, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
thereuare Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!Unfortunately you have no re-bid zones in this area, so you get one chance every 72 hours. The Sheraton will likely take a bid in the mid-$40's to be successful, but the Four Poitnts has a web rate of only $85 so i would start low anyway.I would bid $35, if that is rejected wait 72 hours and bid $41 (i raised by $1 since the Embassy Suites has lately been accepting at that price and at least this gives you a shot at it... you can still bid $40 if you choose to do so).If that's rejected report back as to whether you'd like raise you bid amount or lower your star quality.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. farnorthtrader Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 I am in much the same situation, only for even farther out (April 12) and only 2.5*. Although there are no actual rebid zones, are there any "virtual" rebid zones, like Coronado in San Diego? Areas that are so expensive that you would never end up with them anyway?
thereuare Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Farnorth, please start a new post for your own date(s), since they are different than those in this thread and you also have different bidding parameters.Thanks. cubedweller Posted January 26, 2005 Author Report Posted January 26, 2005 Great tips! Here's how it worked out for me. I bid $39 in the LAX zone - deniedadded Santa Monica at $40 - deniedadded Beverly Hills at $41 - accepted!I got the Radisson at LAX which is the closest hotel to the airport. Perfect!!Thanks again for the tips!Next challenge, St. Lucia!! (but I'll post another thread on that)

Perfect!!Thanks for posting that great strategy, Cubedweller. I will use it since I will be needing a couple of nights at LAX in a couple of months. I am assuming it works because there is no way you would get a 3* in those other two areas at that price??JB
