harry100 Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I just won this hotel for 02/19 for 4 nights, I'm not happy at all with the location, its well out of the city center , and as you mentioned about the decor, lots of reviewers rate it as a 4 star only, take a look at Google street view, its in the suburbs.I'm seriously thinking of taking a hit on the money and book somewhere else, it will cost a lot on taxi's to get anywhere specially coming home at night.Paid the same though the PRICELINE link, and thanks for all the great info on this site
AaronJB Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Sorry to hear that this property won't work out well for location. :)Hopefully you'll be able to make this reservation work, but if not, best of luck with re-booking (maybe HOTWIRE might be a better idea, as you'd be able to guess what may be showing?) and please let us know what you decide.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
e.d. Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 I live in Holland and your hotel is not far from the city centre. It's near the musea and nice restaurants and lies in the expensive neighbourhood. I don't know anything about the hotel though. You can walk to the city centre or take the "tram".
harry100 Posted February 12, 2010 Author Report Posted February 12, 2010 Thanks for the info, i will make a report next week when im back, also i will get a 72 hour tram pass.
BacSi Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 A well reviewed hotel. About an extra 10 min walk or so from say the area of the Marriott to the more center. As stated good tram service. When you bid you just see more different hotels come up at the 5* level. For the 4*'s its more predictable.Right now for 4's the NH Amsterdam Centre ($67-$70 for most dates) And the Movenpick which you usually see with bids of about $79 up. Its been a long time since we have seen anything else at that 4* level. If someone is concerned with location the 4* may be a better bet.
shortysboy Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Thanks for the info, i will make a report next week when im back, also i will get a 72 hour tram pass.Harry100, please do post an update on this hotel. I know where it is, it seems well situated for folks looking to be just out of the dense centrum but still close enough to enjoy it all. I'll be shocked if this place is worth walking away from but I'd sure like hear about your experience. Thanks
shadwell_lad Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 I've just come back from a priceline stay at the Bilderberg Garden. PRICELINE for $87/night. I was concerned at first as per OP but loved my stay there. If it wasn't so cold (-4!!) I could have walked into the centre but using the trams was mega easy. Trams run until 12.30am then there is a night bus. Alternatively taxis are approx 10 euros to get back. Agree that the hotel is 4* but good rooms and friendly staff. Very quiet and no stag / hen nights!
four leaf clover Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 Hi shadwell LadCan I ask if your Bilderberg Garden successful bid was $87 (mentioned today) or $91 (mentioned on Jan 8th post) or are they before and after bidding rates with taxes and charges added?
harry100 Posted February 21, 2010 Author Report Posted February 21, 2010 My bid was $90 for a 5 star, just finishing my stay at the hotel (4 nights)You need a tram pass, its 15 euro for a 72 hour pass unlimited travel, taxi is the only option for coming home, the night bus is very infrequent , 12 euro's from Lidesplein by taxi.Yes the hotel is in a quiet location, but with the lack of any pool or recreational facilities i would not rate it 5 star.Internet at 22 euro for 24 hours is expensive, lots of hotels now have it as a free service. I did not try the restaurant, but it looked busy at night, staff at checkin were friendly and offered an upgrade to jacuzzi room for 25 euro, which i did not take.Final thought, in the summer it might be pleasant to walk around from the hotel to the city center, but not when its -2, especially at night, being a nightowl i would not want to stay here again due to location
