I am going to be in New York from Thursday 7th October for 5 nights. I am looking for a 4 star hotel in an area good for a first time NYC tourist (MTE, MTW, TS). I dont have a fixed budget, but my flights are booked, so I will need somewhere to stay and obviousley the less

At the 4* level the MTE, MTW, CPS, and TS zones typically all work well for the first time visitor. The ESB zone also usually works well, although it's not bid as often as the others zones (it's also not won as often as this zone is often more expensive than the other zones, and when bid in conjunction with other zones, the other zones are awarded before the price gets high enough to win in the ESB zone)

Let us know which zone(s) you're willing to accept and we'll advise accordingly.

I don't think $140 is going to be enough at the moment for this time of year. To give it a try anyway...

At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I'd bump up by $5's, but would try to go up to $160, then stop at $160. If $160 isn't accepted, then wait a week and try again up to $160 - you have a lot of time. As the time gets closer, if $160 isn't accepted, then you could think about how you want to proceed from there.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Bid up to $170 in the end with no luck. I think I'm going to leave it for a while and see if I have more joy next month.

Is October a particularly busy time of year in NYC?

October is generally a busy time with conventions and a pretty good amount of tourist traffic. Early Fall in NYC is not only pretty, but the weather is generally really nice (not too hot, not too cold.)
