vduane Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 My dates are set in stone:02/20/10 - 02/24/10I'm looking to spend up to $110 max per night before taxes and fees.Star level any where from 2.5 to 4.Locations I would like to bid on: CPS/Chelsea/MSG/ESB/MTE/MTW.I would rather spend less for a lesser star value.Based on reading some of the posts on BB ultimately what I would like to end up with is something like the Ramada New Yorker MSG (someone got that for $75) Or the Affinia 50. (Someone scored this for $65). I understand that I could end up with something other than these hotels but I 'm willing to try. What I've maxed out at unsuccessfully so far using the rebidding strategy is:4* $103 in all my preferred locations3.5* $90 in all my preferred loacationsI've also bid:3* MSG $752.5* MTE $65All unsuccessful. Is it a possibility that my check in date is a Saturday and the rates start a little higher than what a Sunday or weekday would be or are my bids just too low? Please help.
AaronJB Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)I don't think you're too far off; HOTWIRE has a 4* in the ESB area for $109 and a 3.5* MTC for $99. Would either of those possibilities be of interest? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
vduane Posted February 10, 2010 Author Report Posted February 10, 2010 I think I would settle for this but I'd like to try for something cheaper first.Would it make sense if i split my stay into 2 hotels? I'm just worried that the first night is the most expensive and that price is being carried over to the cheaper days.I would rather stay at one hotel but if it saves me some cash I may consider doing it.Thanks fro the quick response.
thereuare Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I'm guessing you can come in a little below $100 for a 2.5* or 3* hotel if you SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, but in my opinion the savings wouldn't be worthwhile given the inconvenience (and expense if taking taxi to change hotels). If budget is of primary importance i would try your lowball $65 bid for a 2.5* in the MTE zone and $75 bid for a 3* in the MSG zone for a subset of your dates, but assuming these are rejected, i don't think the savings are going to be enough to justify the lower star rating and inconvenience of changing hotels vs. the quotes of the HOTWIRE hotels above.Ultimaltey it's your stay and your budget, so let us know how you'd liek to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. vduane Posted February 11, 2010 Author Report Posted February 11, 2010 I definitely agree with spitting the dates being more of an inconvenience. So I'm now not interested in that option.Do you still think it's worth trying $65 bid for a 2.5* in the MTE zone and $75 bid for a 3* in the MSG zone for all 4 nights? Or is this too low.If that's the case HOTWIRE may be a good option unless you can help me get a better deal on PRICELINE. Options on Hotwire that I'm looking at right now that look like good possibilities:Chelsea/MSG 3* $95 (not sure which one this is)CPA 4* $106 (looks like the Empire)ESB 3* $99 (No Amenities? which one is this?)I'm willing to grab one of these (or something like this) soon unless you have a better bidding strategy on PRICELINE.Thanks for the help.

thereuare Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Very nice deal. This property is also near by often recommended breakfast spot: Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st). One of the best bagels in the city and makes for a good, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among locals.Enjoy your stay.
