jwcrugby Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Howdy-I've been using the BB PRICELINE link for all of my business and personal travel for more than a year now. Smooth sailing and some great deals. I am going to Vegas from 2/12 to 2/14 (Friday night and Saturday night). I have been bidding on the North Strip trying to win a 4* or better hotel. Using rebids and over a number of nights, I have bid up as high as $97. I realize that 2/13 is a very in demand night as it is the Saturday of a big (Valentines and President's Day) 3 day weekend, but seeing all the history on 4*, I was hoping to have won something by now. I noticed that someone won TI for $93 on those days, but they also had a third night (Thursday) that priceline probably averaged over. I'm guessing this is why I am not winning at $97. My trip is now 15 days away. I do have a backup reservation, so I still have some flexibility in waiting to bid. But what I am wondering is whether anyone thinks hotels will release more rooms before I travel. In the past, at least in other cities, I have seen the tendency to be that large hotel chains release more rooms when you are inside 30 days... So, what do you think my plan should be??? Keep going up a bit or sit for a week and hope for additional rooms to be added to Priceline? Thanks.

Everything is about supply and demand. But this is going to be a busy weekend in LV so i would have tried to close this ASAP.Looking at the current prices for your stay. My guess is that it takes $115+ to hit a 4* if they have any inventory.Let us know if we can help you any further.Yellowdog.PS. Thanx for using boards PRICELINE link :)
lymle Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 I've been trying to bid for just 1 night, Friday, 2/12 for a 4 star. I wanted the North Strip as well, but ended up at Luxor in the South Strip for $80/night + tax. After looking at the prices available online and the offer that I got accepted, the discount was approximately $20. Not sure if it's worth it for you to keep on trying....the deals are not as great because of the holiday weekend. (As you mentioned, it's Valentine's, President's, AND Chinese New Year.)

jwcrugby Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Been watching diligently for the last bit. Finally saw this and the amenities suggested that it was either Paris or Planet Hollywood. Either would have been perfect. Total including taxes and fees $237Started my bidding using the HOTWIRE link.Amenities shown were: Casino, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Spa Services
jwcrugby Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Having bid up to $116 over the past couple of weeks (pretty consistently each day), I kept an eye on the hotwire rates. Today, a 4* in the Center Strip popped up for $102/night and the amenities suggested Planet Hollywood or Paris. Either would have been acceptable (main reason I hadn't bid 4* down in this region was that I didn't want the Luxor). Turned out to be Planet Hollywood. Very happy with the rate and the hotel.Started my purchase using the HOTWIRE BB link. Also, I have posted this over to the Hotwire section as a win. Consider my original subject closed! Thanks!
yellowdog Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Thank you for sharing your result with the board and using our HOTWIRE link to book this :) Enjoy your stay and good luck!Yellowdog.
