mresbooks Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 HiI am planning a trip to NY in June, arriving 6/7/10 and departing 6/12/10. I have found a 4 star Times Square Hotel on Hotwire for $242 and am hoping for some ideas as to what it might be. I had thought at first that it was the Hotel Mela, but now am not too sure. The details from Hotwire are: boutique, fitness, restaurant, and internet (you can see why I thought it was the Mela), but the further details show it to be rated 4 1/2 stars by Trp Advisor, which the Mela is not. It also shows that it was recommended in 90% of customer reviews. Also, I am hoping to land a room that is slightly bigger than the typical 200 sq.ft. room, but would like to keep the rate under $250. Any ideas are appreciated.Lester
thereuare Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! If not the Hotel Mela, the Muse with a 'new' Hi-Speed Internet icon seems to fit and would be my best guess. There are less expensive 4* hotels in other nearby zones, what are your needs for this stay, or were you attracted to this offering based upon the very good TA user review rating? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mresbooks Posted February 9, 2010 Author Report Posted February 9, 2010 Thanks!! Our needs for the stay are to be fairly close to the theater district and have a nice, quiet (if possible in NY) place to call "home" for 5 days. My wife has never ben, and I was last in NY 20 years ago. Used to stay at a place called the Beverly (Lexington @ 50th), but that is no longer around. It was one of the first "suite" hotels. Liked it for the amount of room. Was interested in the offer that I inquired about since it does have a good TA rating (although I have found them to be totally useful in the past) and by the fact that it was more $ than the Mela quoted directly and not too much less than the Muse.I am totally open to other ideas...and have even been considering renting an apartment for the 5 nights. Is that smart? And do you have any recommendations for hotels and how to snag them?Lester
thereuare Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 I'd start with my thoughts on Hotels Near Times Square. After that, it really depends what you're looking for from this stay. Assuming the above is The Muse it gets great reviews and being a Kimpton property has a nice wine tasting/reception every evening, which is a nice touch and enjoyable way to start the evening... but you're also paying a premium to stay there are slightly lesser hotels (3.5* rated) for about $50 less per nite. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts as per the above and what you decide or if we can be of further help.
