Used the site's PRICELINE link to begin bidding. Like many prior bidders for this zone, figured I'd start low at $45. Used re-bidding adding $3 and a new re-bid zone for each subsequent bid as follows:

$48 added Anaheim Hills - rejected

$51 added Buena Park - rejected

$54 added Disneyland - Anaheim - rejected

$57 added Fullerton - rejected

$60 added Laguna - rejected

At this point, realizing I only had 2 freebie re-bid zones, decided I better increase by $5 increments as follows:

$65 added Laguna Hills - rejected

$70 added Seal Beach - rejected

So, while we truly wanted to be in Newport Beach, I took a calculated risk and added a zone with 4* properties - Dana Point/San Clemente and raised bid to $75. (I figured based on research my bid was not yet high enough to get the Laguna Cliffs Marriott in Dana Point (I hadn't really seen any other 4* properties being won in this zone). That being said, I figured it was a relatively safe gamble and that maybe one of the Newport properties would accept at $75.

Sure enough, the Marriott Newport Beach accepted my $75 offer. Here are the details:

$75.00 per night

$150.00 (2 nights)

$28.02 taxes and fees

$178.02 total price paid

I'm very pleased with this win as it's right in the heart of where we want to be and the current lowest rates at this property are $189 per night!

Had a great stay here last weekend. We decided to upgrade to an oceanview room and were told it would be $40 additional per night (but they didn't charge us for the upgrade upon check-out). Also, a previous message on the board suggested parking on the street (Newport Center Drive in front of the hotel) to avoid the $18 per night parking. It is 2 hour parking but only from 8 am - 6 pm Mon. - Fri. We parked there all weekend and it worked out great!
