KathyAH475 Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Hello, I have had 2 unsuccessful bidding days for a 4* downtown hotel on PRICELINE for New Orleans 2/26/10-3/1/10. Tried the strategies on this board and just got rejected for $85. Even tried just bidding for one night, Sat 2/27. Any ideas before I try in 24 hours? Thank you so much- Kathy
thereuare Posted January 29, 2010 Report Posted January 29, 2010 Have you checked hotel direct rates for these dates? I looked at four of the 4* rated hotels in this area.... 2 were sold-out and the other 2 were prices at $300+/nite.What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. KathyAH475 Posted January 30, 2010 Author Report Posted January 30, 2010 Hi, thank you for checking Hotel Direct. I did not know about that. But, I did begin thinking that there just must not be much 4* inventory for that weekend. I really did not want to pay more than $100 total a night, and I was hoping to do even better than that after reading the fabulous deals people on this board were getting. Strategy: After breaking up the 3 nights, I finally got a 3* Holiday Inn French Quarters for $80 for Sat, Sun (total 194.26). Priceline offered to extend my stay ( I still needed Fri night) for $100 (plus tax). I exited the browser, signed back in using the link here, and my bid of $91 was accepted at the Holiday Inn French Quarters. I am glad it is the same hotel. I still need one more evening my husband and I, just Saturday, Feb 27, but my $82 bid was rejected fo0r a 3*! It must be a busy weekend! I'll try again todaySo far, 3* Holiday Inn French QuartersFriday, Feb 26 $91 ($113.36 with tax)Saturday, Feb 27 $80 ($97.13 with tax)Sunday, Feb 28 $80 ($97.13 with tax)Average per night: $102.54- within my price range, but a 3* instead of 4*. Still, a nice location and the Holiday Inn seems like a nice hotel in the French Quarters.Wish me luck for the one more room I need Sat. night. Husband is staying at the Intercontinental Sun and Mon for a conference, but for some reason it does not look like I have a chance of getting Sat night there thru Priceline! Thanks for your help and for this fabulous board. - Kathy
thereuare Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Congratulations on your success! It could be that the Saturday nite is the difficult nite of this stay, and when searching the hotel direct rates above and including the Saturday, it inflated rates for the entire stay and/or created the sold-out condition.Glad to see you received the same hotel for your three separate purchases thus far, if you need help with the remaining nite of your stay (or to report your eventual win for that nite), please start a NEW TOPIC.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy this leg of your stay.
