target317 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I'm looking at 4* Ft. Lauderdale (Hollywood Beach) from 3/14/2010 to 3/15/2010. I know the two likely possibilities are Crowne Plaza and Westin Diplomat. Using the same search, I get prices of $109, $112, $114, and $116, seemingly at random (although Google Chrome seems to always give $109 or $116 and Internet Explorer seems to always give $112 or $114) . The amenities are always identical: Resort, Near Beach, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pools, Restaurants, High-Speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby.I know the information above isn't enough to figure out if it's Crowne Plaza or Westin Diplomat, but here's the interesting part: IE never gives me a TripAdvisor or Hotwire customer rating, but Chrome always gives me the Hotwire customer rating. In Chrome, sometimes the review is "Recommended in 85% of customer reviews (500+ total reviews)" and sometimes it's "Recommended in 95% of customer reviews (200+ total reviews)"... first of all, am I missing the TripAdvisor rating info? I never see it in any result (for any hotel/date/city). Secondly, does anyone know if the 85% with 500+ reviews vs. the 95% with 200+ reviews can differentiate between Crowne Plaza and Westin Diplomat? Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you enter "Hollywood Beach" into the QUICK SEARCH box in the blue banner at the top of the board you'll see related wins for this property. I'd start by doing HOTWIRE searches for any threads which have dates which are in the future, and for each win compare the hotel received to the HOTWIRE information provided (number of reviews and percent recommended) on a current search. See if you can detect a patern as to which hotel is the one with 200+ reviews and which is the one with 500+ reviews (and the same for the percent recommendations)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases... and your searches too!Let us know what you find and how it goes or if we can be of further help. target317 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Report Posted January 29, 2010 Excellent suggestion! Thank you thereuare!I got the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa for $112 from 3/14/2010 to 3/15/2010. Amenities were:resort, near beach, smoke free rooms, fitness center, pools, restaurants, high speed internet, golf nearbyFor anyone else trying to choose between the Westin Diplomat and Crowne Plaza in Hollywood Beach, currently if it says "recommended by 85% (500+ reviews)" there's a good chance it's the Crowne Plaza. If it says "recommended by 95% (200+ reviews)" there's a good chance it's the Westin Diplomat.
