Hi there,

I am looking to book a 5* hotel in Westminster. There is only one listed on the hotel lists, so I am hoping to get lucky and end up with Marriott County Hall. Already made an offer of $100 as I am new to bidding, didnt get it and didn't expect success with such a low rate. Any ideas as to how much I should realistically bid would be grateful. My stay is from 28th Feb to 4th March.

Thanks for any advice on offer

Over the last two days, my plans have changed so just as well I didn't get carried away with my enthusiasm for bidding. I am now looking for the 5* in Westminster (hopefully Marriott County Hall) for 1 night Sunday, 14th February and Heathrow, 4* ,1 night, Wednesday, 17th February. I would love a strategy to pay under 130 US for the 5* westminster and 80 US for the 4* Heathrow. By the way, I have overcome the problems I thought I had booking through this site, following your advice. Thanking you for all your help.

Interesting - for your Feb 17 date, Hotwire has a LHR 4* for $73. Of course with fees and taxes that will come up a bit, but you shouldn't have trouble there when bidding.

On the other hand, for Feb 14 Hotwire's Westminister 5* is a whopping $489. That plan might need adjusted a bit. They do have a 4* for $106, and there were some less expensive 5*s in other areas. Still, the lowest 5* for Valentine's Day was a $229 Mayfair.

You likely will do a bit better bidding on Priceline.

I know, I think the fact that this day is actuallt Valentines Day might make a difference to the prices. The only thing in my favour is it falls on a Sunday. There are numerous 5* stars I fancy for the 14th, they are the Landmark (Regents Park, Baker St., Camden Lock area) on Hotwire, 5* Intercontinental, 5* waldorf 4.5* Le Meridien Piccadily (all have indoor pools) and this is a big factor with me. There are lots of 4* with pools but with Priceline, you cant tell whether you are going to end up with one of the others without. Anyway I will keep hunting and taking advice from you guys. Also will let you know what I end up with. Ta

Given your desire for an indoor pool, are you going to restrict yourself to HOTWIRE or are you willing to use PRICELINE as well, taking the chance you may get a hotel without an indoor pool? Does anything appear on HOTWIRE within your budget in the zone/star ratings you desire?

Very happily reporting back. I have just won the Marriott Maida Vale for 89.94 US (including tax) for the 14th Feb on PRICELINE, using links from here. I feel so lucky as this hotel also has the steam room and pool which I really appreciate when away.
