This is my first posting on the boards but have used the link to order from HOTWIRE.com in the past. My fiance and I are getting married on March 14. We have put every penny of the wedding in ourselves and up until very recently we weren't having a honeymoon. I found a good deal for two roundtrip tickets from LAX to New York for $450, so I booked it on faith! Neither one of us has been to NYC before and although I am very faithful to hotwire.com I don't know where any of the locations are, what is near what or anything. We want to be able to visit all major landmarks, central park, times square and especially walk down 5th avenue and visit all the window shopping locales. Honestly, we don't even have a budget for our hotel because any amount is more than we have right now.

Please let me know if you come across any great hotel deals, or know of a perfect location to stay. All the subdivisions that hotwire breaks the city into mean nothing to me. I don't know whats the best bang for buck or how to guess which hotel we may be booking through hotwire. All other cities have been easy for me but not new york. We appreciate all your help!

Our arrival date is March 15th and departure date March 20, 2010

Welcome to Betterbidding and (early) Congrats on your honeymoon! :)

Sharing any previous HOTWIRE deals with the board would be greatly appreciated, as that information does help others.

I definitely understand being on a budget, although if you could give us an idea of what would be within the budget - would $100-125+ tax be within range? Is there anything you see on HOTWIRE when searching that would work? I see a 3* in the Empire State Building area for $129 on HOTWIRE for these dates. Are you interested in trying PRICELINE?

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Yes I am interested in priceline.com as well. I have just never used that site. Something around $125 would be great. Also, if I had some idea of the hotel I would be getting I may be willing to pay a little more. Thanks for your help!

My guess is that you'll budget is not enough for a 4*... but probably is enough for a 3.5* (assuming you're using $150 as your maximum bid amount and not 'all-in' including taxes and fees... if all-in then your maximum bid is about $125 which i would call a 3.5* possible)

Do you want to try for the 4* first, up to your limit, just to give it a try and then try for a 3.5* if rejected... or try to save some money and try for a 3.5* hotel first? Since you're not familiar with NYC I'll use my judgement in regards to the zones, however, there is one decision you'll need to make. At the 3.5* level the MTE zone includes the Millenium UN, which is a very nice hotel, but about a 15 minute walk to the subway... some find this too far east, so we'll need to know if this would be an acceptable outcome for you so we know if we should include this zone in any 3.5* bidding.

Please confirm your bid amount ($125 or $150) and if you want to try first for a 4* or 3.5* property... we'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow.
